Learning SCCM - What server roles do I need?

Hi all,

 

 

I have just installed Server 2012 R2 Data centre edition onto a virtual machine so that I can start to learn how to use SCCM from the beginning all the way up to a fully working environment where I can deploy an OS and applications etc.

 

 

My first question (many more to follow over the coming weeks/months I'm sure) is what roles do I need to have setup on the server before I can proceed with the sccm setup?

 

I do have a copy of System Centre 2012 Configuration Manager (SCCM) Unleashed to work through however it doesn't really mention the roles required on the server side.

I found this guide really useful when setting up SCCM recently. It's a marathon and not a sprint- it's taken me at least half a week to get it to a point where Windows 10 is deploying correctly.

 

There are a lot of gotchas and it really requires a lot of concentration. I'd suggest reading the guide I linked to in it's entirety so you get a feeling for what you're going to be doing. Remember you may/will need to make some adaptations for your particular environment.
