User profile service service failed the logon

Afternoon,

 

This is beginning to drive me mad.

So student A tries to log into a PC and gets "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". Student B can login ok. Student A can log into another PC ok.

 

Student A does not have a profile on that computer. and yes I have made double sure there is no trace of them in the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

 

The only way round it at the moment appears to be a OS reinstall.

 

Maybe I could put up with that for the odd domain account, reinstalling the OS, but I now have a laptop by the side of me doing the same thing but with a local administrator account. I can logon as a domain admin. I have tried to create a new local account something completely different but this still gets "The User Profile Service failed the logon. Have you tried just deleting Student A from and re-creating student A on the server and running Delprof on the problem pc?

Have you tried removing the computer from the domain (to workgroup), then re-joining it?

Try running this command in Elevated Command Prompt then get the student to try and log in.

I guess you are using windows 7? We had a nightmare with this when we first rolled Windows 7 out.

 

Command:

del /s /q "C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Sqm\*"

pause

 

The pause just allows you to see if it has deleted the file or if it wasn't there to begin with.

Hi there been getting this same error a few time on some win 7 units

The User Profile Service service failed to logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

I have tried the regedit option and even reinstall windows on to happens again happens on random pc no Patton so not sure why , have tried setting up new profile they will not load and ideas only way i can fix is fully wipe and reinstall OS

When it started happening to me I found on the web lots of strange and long convoluting solutions.

What I found worked for me was to reset the permissions on the ‘Default’ User in c:\users.

 

I still get it every now and then on a random PC a random users will get the error message other users are unaffected.

Below sorts the problem everytime so far for me.

 

If you can, login as an admin, go into c:\users\

Unhide the folders if you can’t see ‘Default’

Right click ‘Default’, click properties, click ‘Security’ tab. Click ‘Advanced’ then click ‘change permissions’

Put a tick in

“Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object”

Then click ‘apply’

I then use ‘delprof2’ to clear any profiles on the computer.

 

Hopefully it will do the job for you, All the best

i will give that a go think i tried that before but will try when on site tomorrow before i have the wipe and rebuild thanks

I have seen the same error on Windows 7 on VDI desktops where profiles were stored on Central Server.

 

The fix was always to remove the stored profile, this was only stored on the server and no local copies as the VDI sessions were configured to not keep changes.

these are all stored Locally and not roaming profiles either have even set up new profile for the user and that will not load yet domain admin will its a odd one as the user was able to logon fine it just stopped ?
