Since the beginning of term we have had a problem with books being issued via Self issue. The Identikit is no longer working and MLS have confirmed that this is an issue with their plugin.

5 weeks on and we are still without a working Self issue, all I get from support is the fact that it is a high priority and with development.

Are any others experiencing similar issues?

Are there any alternative Library solutions we should be looking at?

it has been high priority for over a year along with many other things that are "high priority and with development"

From what I remember (over a year ago I came across this) downgrading to an older version works but I cant be a 100% as the school I was at left MLS shortly after due to the issues and costing.

My advice would be to ask support if downgrading to an older version works, MLS is a great piece of kit if you get on the right version where everything works for you and don't get conned into upgrading the thing.

Thank you bennz for your comments.

Unfortunately downgrading is not an option as the only reason we upgraded was to fix other issues we were having with the plugin.

Are you able to give me an indication as to what product the school moved to?

Have they offered you the new "wedge" (non-IE) plugin? If not, raise hell with the support desk. MLS are notorious for not informing customers about available fixes to common problems.

In the end, we moved away from a software solution, students have reading record books and the staff keep a master record of who has what it's not fancy but gets the job done, Students still write reviews etc part of homework all in all it works and doesn't require much effort or money.

We were going to go with Access-It LibraryPreview before we moved "manual" it seemed to have all the features of MLS while seeming to do a better job, didn't get as far as costing or demoing tho so for all i know the videos are all staged and the thing is as buggy as MLS software while also being more expensive.

It is worth finding out if the wedge has been released, that's what they were talking about when I raised the issue with support.

Their support for this has been woeful. We have tried 4 different versions of the plugin now and none of them will talk to Biostore properly. They ignore mails and dealing with different people all the time just slows everything down. One of the worst support teams I've come across.

Another school here who don't have a good word to say about their support!

I emailed in the week about an issue that's ongoing - no reply.

Emailed again to ask for a call-back - no reply no call-back.

Sums up their commitment to their customers I would say.

Same here, very slow to reply, I've been trying to import users (originally via Azure AD which took them a week to tell me was for SSO only and told me to use CSV... CSV import gives an error which they've not replied to yet after another week.)

Would be good to hear from what other people are running instead for their libraries as we will be making the decision about this once we recruit a permanent new librarian in a couple of months. For the price you pay (especially for the hosted edition) you'd expect top notch support.

Edit: Just noticed this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/176611-library-systems-what-others-there.html
