Can't Generate the CENSUS return file

I've been having an absolute nightmare trying to generate my Autumn 2016 CENSUS and hope someone on here might be able to help me?

 

 

• I've got the latest version of SIMS, 7.170
  
• I've imported fileset 403
  
• I've updated course memberships
  

 

yet when I've tried to 'Create & Validate' I get an error message saying "Unable to generate the return file."

 

I've even freed up space on my computer and have even tried it with fileset 404 but still no luck.

 

Are there anyone out there who might know what I can do???

Is the Census folder set correctly and do you have Write permissions on it ?

It is and I do. I've done them for the last two years without a problem. Only having it now.

I had this the other day, when I've been doing my dry runs with no problems. Probably a silly question, but have you calculated all details again, then validated again? It worked for me.

This is probably no help whatsoever, but our SBM has been having problems and they [our sims support] are having to apply a patch to fix it. Sorry I don't know more details

No, I get:

1. Data is being collected

2. XML is being created (I think it says this, it goes too quickly for me to read properly)

3. Unable to generate the return file

Try making a CTF file, then point the Census return at the same destination folder?

it sounds from what you say that it is trying to create the xml file but cant due to permissions. Try deliberately changing the Census folder location to somewhere else as a test?

Funny, we had the same. Nobody had changed anything, yet we lost the ability to write to the ASCOUT folder on the S drive after the first run! I thought it was just me.... had to reissue permissions for Exams Officer to do this. (EO does the autumn census as its majors on Post16 and QAN Codes etc).

We've tried with different accounts and different machines but none seem to work. It's very annoying.

I have been trying to find fileset 404 but I cannot find it. Has anyone else had the same problem?

There should be no difference for English schools as it's mainly for Welsh schools. Since I've imported it however, I'm no longer able to go back and try fielset 403.

I have just had this problem back again.

I set a screen recorder to capture the 'quick flash' message. It says...

Could not find file S:\sims\star\ascout\census_output.xml

Absolutely no idea why this comes and goes.........

Logged another call with our LSU to push Capita.....

Just wondering if you ever find out what the problem was? As I get this error now when trying to validate our return. It seems to be going through the validation process fine, and at the end just comes up with the message at the bottom 'unable to generate the return file'.

 

As far as I know nothing has changed regarding my permissions? Anyone else got problems?

It did get resolved last year but can't remember how, think CAPITA might have solved it by remoting into our server, can't be sure but It's worked fine since, touch wood.
