Just after some information on car leasing.

Just wondered if anyone on here has a car on lease that would share some information. (I have a car on finance but looking at other options for the mrs)

I have always bought used cars - normally 2-5 years old

Recently I have started wondering if I could lease a new car for about the same amount - is anyone willing to give example costs??

thanks

I did some pricing on the Skoda website for mine, alot of it is down to mileage and that's where is gets expensive. I'm on the look out for a lease company that does a good deal on say 30k a year for me.

I worked out that a 2/3 year old BMW of about 3 years would depreciate about by about £7k plus a grand tops for loan and you're looking at it costing £7/8k over the 3 years, plus usual motoring costs - but you own the car completely etc.

Although not like for like (leasing seems only available on new cars?) a BMW over 3 years for a similar spec to above would work out at about £10k over 3 years.

Worth noting; a teacher at my school leases a VW and it developed a major issued and expected him to sort it. However, the cost was so high, he was no way going to be able to fix it, so they did the repair and charged him an excess fee. It's because they own the car and if they get it back in crap state then it's not as worth as much too them, so it was more in their interest over the long term to fix it. Not sure how common practice this is though....

I have my car on PCP (similar to leasing and often confused with leasing) and I use to work in the automotive trade as well. I would definitely recommend PCP over leasing as you are less likely to receive “penalty” fees at the end of the contract and it gives you more options overall. For example it is much easier to end the contract early if you need to do so and you have the option to buy the car at the end of the contract.

If you have any specific question I can probably answer them for you.

Got my car on PCH, it suited me. The deposit was £1500 and £276 per month including maintenance package for 3 years that's going to cost me on total jus less than 12K. I guess that is nearly equal to the depreciation on the car.

It's like a long term hire car but there is no easy way to terminante early with out a big payout.

I'm leasing a Ford EcoSport 1.0 litre at the moment via yes-lease.co.uk - really happy with it. We had a Fiesta 3 door via Ford Options and were paying £149 a month. Then that came to an end and we needed a 5 door car so it seemed to make sense to lease. I have no worries about it now.

There was a ~£300 paper work fee which I thought was a bit steep but due to the time of year I leased, I didn't have to pay a deposit (which I didn't have anyway).

It's a really nice car as well. We are now paying £179 a month for a safe car. I'm allowed 10k miles a year.

Hope this helps - ask away via DM if you want more info.
