Thought I was watching an Apple video. ;) At least we have 8 months to get rid of our old £5 notes. :)

Hopefully it's nicer than canadian plastic money. (That's the only time i've used polymer notes so it may be the canadians just do horrid cheap ones)

I love how they're heralding the point of it being tougher/longer lasting. The little breakdown of note replacements amused me. 21,835 notes were replaced in 2015 due to damage. 5,364 were "chewed or eaten" :lol:

 

That's almost as many as Washed (1,801), Fire (997) and 'Contaminated' (2,917) combined!

Literally haven't used cash for about 3 months now. I pay for everything on contactless card these days.

 

I don't even carry a wallet any more, just my debit card in a compartment in my iPhone case.

I spent about 3 weeks on contactless and then suddenly it challenged me for my PIN - the shock made me forget everything. If someone had asked me my name at that point I might have hesitated.

I haven't got my hands on one yet. I'd be lieing if I said I wasn't a tiny bit eager to get one. Most of me doesn't care. A fiver's a fiver. But it's new, and therefore a part of me just wants to have a good old nosey :p

You WILL get a new fiver (if the ATM dispenses £5s- many Tesco and HSBC cash machines do). BoE are very keen on getting the old £5 note out of circulation so all ATMs will be dispensing new fivers from now on.

 

I got a batch a couple of days after they were launched and people's reactions are great! I've had from 'Ooh!' to 'How did you get this?!' to 'You've made my day!'

The only cash machine that dispenses £5 notes here now only dispenses £10 notes :(

Our local HSBC's cash machine was completely replaced on the eve of the £5 release day so that they could dispense from day 1. Talk about last minute!

I suspect we'll soon see problems with our cashless catering not accepting them. Thankfully money can also be manually credited so we'll probably just operate that way until (or if) our revals are updated/replaced.

Our cashless catering has been sorted to take them, I saw a couple of engineers sacrificing a few turkey twizzlers to the machine.

 

It was needed - as there's a Tesco close by with a fiver dispensing ATM.

 

 

 

Irony abound though, as the 'self-service-i-go-mental-if-you-scan-a-nectar-card-by-mistake' machines IN Tesco don't seem to take the new fivers yet.

I saw one today from a distance.

 

I got one yesterday. Looks quite plastic-y and less "real" than other countries polymer notes

They can't afford to make it look real, not with the pound worth about 23p since Brexit!
