Swf games in E-Mails

I've recently done a purge on our system to remove as many Flash games as possible. I would like to block .swf files completely but they are required by our ICT department teaching Flash!

 

The only place the games now remain is in users exchange mailboxes. Some of these e-mails have up to 100 different games attached! I plan to wipe all student mailboxes over the holiday which should help the situation, however, I know that they will simply e-mail the games back in again!

 

Can I stop Exchange from allowing swf attachments? I don't want to block all attachments, just swf files.

I was wondering if there was a way to block these games from playing... but the kids here use flash in ICT too... rubbish!

 

They have them on their memory sticks at our place so there is nothing we can do about it without confiscating the memory stick... but then they just bring them in again on another memory stick...

 

Oh well... it's their own education they are missing out on!

I forgot to say that our students all use Web-Outlook, so I'm not sure if the Microsoft article would work in this case. I will look into it though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ultimately, I don't think you can fix these problems by technical means. It's a classroom control issue.

With OWA the closest thing you could do is prevent the MIME-type being downloaded by forcing it through your proxy.

I would of thought you can block *.swf attachments and the advantage here is that it won't clog up MS Exchange.

 

Users might still bring them in on a memory stick, but they should be supervised by a teacher anyway. I still think creating a mail rule for pupil users would make a big difference.
