speckytecky Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 We are installing a Synology RS214 NAS and I'm looking for recommendations on imaging software (ideally cost free) to carry out image backups. Unfortunately we aren't Virtual so unfortunately Veam isn't an option.
pantscat Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I'm not aware of anything that's free and will take an online image level backup. Could be an opportunity to go P2V? It's painless... honest! 1
cpjitservices Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 To image the NAS itself or end user PC's / laptops ? What about FOG or similar ?
ItsOggy Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Look at Veeam Endpoint Free, its for physical boxes: https://www.veeam.com/endpoint-backup-free.html 1
pantscat Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 That's a great suggestion - forgot about that!
nicholab Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Look at disk2vhd which creates a virtual disk. Also back assist is very reasonable priced. Veeam works well for disk backups as you will be to keep more recovery points. 1
speckytecky Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 New Server 2012 R2 physical box. On the old one we did have Backup Exec but as it's 7 years old now can't find the original software and I guess anyhow it's unlikely to be a lot of good with Server 2012. We will be backing up to a Synology in a remote cabinet and locally to removable Hard Drives; ideally we would love to be backing up to the Cloud as well. I was looking at the offer from Acronis. To image the NAS itself or end user PC's / laptops ? What about FOG or similar ?
speckytecky Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 Would this work with a physical 2 Core server? I'm looking to have a back up regime that backs up to a Synology NAS; removable HDs and the Cloud. Look at Veeam Endpoint Free, its for physical boxes: https://www.veeam.com/endpoint-backup-free.html
nicholab Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 (edited) Most synlogy boxes should be able to backup to the big cloud providers. Edited September 1, 2016 by nicholab
McChikenhanger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 You can get VEEAM Free Backup to run on physical servers. 1
McChikenhanger Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Or you can always use Windows Backup to backup the server to an iSCSI target on the Synology box. 1
