Hi All,

I need to impliment an Anti Spam solution that works with our Exchange server.

Basically, same old story, need to do this fairly cheaply [or free if poss!].

Can anyone suggest a suitable product?

Cheers,

Glenn.

cookie_monster - That link seems not to work but I had thought about the Intelligent Message Filter and yes, it is 2003.

OutToLunch - Yes, we run SMTP. Definately not the pop connector.

Intelligent message filter is not bad and is free.

We use Sophos Pure Message - not free but we included it with our desktop virus package so it wasn't scary price.

Kaspersky are very keen to get education business so might be worth talking to them (but it also won't be free!)

We also use MailScanner (http://www.mailscanner.info) which is very good. My notes on how I set it up are here. That is free (apart from time and hardware; we run it on a 2.4GHz Celeron with 1Gb RAM and it's fine so it doesn't need mega-hardware)

We use IMF and Puremessage.

Before I implemented IMF, Puremessage would filter about 80 emails a day but many would still get through.

Since implementing IMF there hundreds caught every day and staff have seen a massive improvement.

It's worth installing, definately. And also download IMF Companion and turn on recording of the SCL numbers so you can fine tune the blocking settings easily.

Also consider something like Proxmox - follows Geoff's advice about Linux but is easier to set up (insert disk in old machine and follow the wizardy-thing).
