What is this?

We have just got in a batch of HDMI to VGA converters and every pack contains a metal wire. One end of the wire screws into the other end to form a loop. As shown on the attached images:

 

 

All of us in the IT office are completely baffled as to what this could be for.

 

Can anyone shed any light?

No Idea what it could be used for with that cable though

I would guess its somehow to be used to try and prevent cables falling out or being pulled out due to the adapter being a loose dongle? That'd be my only guess though!

The only time I've seen those was on a promotional keychain that I was given! Could it be the manufacturer's idea of strain relief? Bit odd, I agree!

No idea. I'd expect like @tekins suggested, it's some kind of keychain/ring, but why on earth it would be included with VGA-HDMI cables, I haven't the foggiest..

Yes, you're right, it definitely seems like that's what it is. The mystery now is why would they send you one with an HDMI adapter?

We've got similar adaptors for Display Port to VGA.

 

All I can say is that until we started cable tying the adaptors to the back of the machines, we was replacing them about once a month.

The actual connector that plugs into the computer was actually quite flimsy and the slightest nudge was enough to break the casing and render the thing useless.
