Yes, you're right, it definitely seems like that's what it is. The mystery now is why would they send you one with an HDMI adapter?
-
We have just got in a batch of HDMI to VGA converters and every pack contains a metal wire. One end of the wire screws into the other end to form a loop. As shown on the attached images: All of us in the IT office are completely baffled as to what this could be for. Can anyone shed any light?

So, who's installing Windows 10 on the 29th July?
simonhayes replied to Dos_Box's topic in Windows 10
I will install it on my office computer, but won't roll it out to everyone until I see how it performs. I'll probably put it on the 2 Windows 8 PCs we currently have in school too. -
Sorted it, it was a permissions problem on the server. Thanks for all your help everyone! Annoying thing now is we go Vanilla in 1 more week, so going to have to reconfigure the whole thing again! At least I'll know what I'm doing next time.

That's what I have tried to do if you see the above. The admin accounts are working fine, as is the Shared Documents folder which everyone should have. However, if I try and log on as a user in the group 'year 7' which should be a student user, it still tries to map it to the RMAdminWork share, which should only go to admin users. This obviously doesn't work as students don't get permission to access this share, but it shouldn't even try. What am I doing wrong? Am I doing the group names correctly?

Tried this in the pam_mount.conf.xml but it doesn't seem to work: path="RMStudentWork\Year 7" mountpoint="/home/local/BROOKVALE" options="sec=krb5,user=%(DOMAIN_USER)@%(DOMAIN_NAME),uid=%(USERUID),gid=%(USERGID),cruid=%(USERUID),nodev,nosuid,file_mode=0700,dir_mode=0700"> path="RMSysAdminWork" mountpoint="/home/local/BROOKVALE" options="sec=krb5,user=%(DOMAIN_USER)@%(DOMAIN_NAME),uid=%(USERUID),gid=%(USERGID),cruid=%(USERUID),nodev,nosuid,file_mode=0700,dir_mode=0700">

Only gone and got it working!!!!!! :D :D Noticed a mistake in the pam_mount.conf.xml file, which I copied from the DevOps site, the "" were formatted versions. Corrected that and we're in! Thanks so much for all your help Geoff. Unfortunately I'm not done there though!! My users are in different containers on the server, for example admin are in a "SystemAdminWork" share, teachers in a 'TeacherWork' share and students in a "StudentWork' share. Is there any way of accounting for this? Thanks again for all your help.

Started from scratch with a clean install of 14.04LTS. Still couldn't get this to work. Tried mjk's suggestion as well. It logs into the domain fine, but just cannot get it to mount the home folder on the server. Very frustrating! @Geoff, how do I go about downgrading the security method to ntlmv2? Thanks all for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Sorry, didn't get round to trying any of that yesterday. The blasted laptop I was using has gone into the dreaded low graphics mode and I can't seem to get it out. I'm going to try again on a different laptop.
-
I'm going to start again from scratch this time using Ubuntu 14.04. I'm using 15.04 at the moment and I ran into some teething problems installing pbis due to systemd, so maybe this is why I'm encountering problems.

No, that folder is empty. How do I make a keytab?

Put the DNS settings in but still shows the same thing. I think it's trying to launch the mount before the network interface is starting which is why it's failing. Also, why does it appear to be trying to use the username 'lightdm'? That doesn't exist anywhere.
-
Yes I can, however it doesn't let me ping 'bhs-sr-001' without the 'brookvale.internal' on the end.

There's not an audit.log, but an auth.log. Sorry, where is that?
-
Doesn't seem to throw an error? Unless I need to check a log or something?
-
It works up to the point where you connect users home directories. Which I can't get to work. It creates the profile folder locally but doesn't write anything back to the server.

Hi All, Has anyone used Breathe Technology before? A guy from Breathe showed up in reception the other day claiming to have an appointment with me. He said he had spoke to me on the phone and emailed me about it. I didn't recall speaking to him or reading any email, but I went along with it and showed him round. We also happen to be looking to get 33 PCs in for next year, so he said he'd be happy to quote for us. Anyway, he goes away. I search my email and haven't had any correspondence from Breathe Technology before, not even in my spam folder. Later that day he sends me a quote that blows everyone else out of the water. The quote is for 33 Lenovos with 8GB RAM and i5 processors with monitors for £345 over 12 grand. Now I'm assuming Lenovos are a good make? A colleague who works at the site next door says he never has any problems with them. The only people who can get anywhere near that price are Ergo. Another company I've never used before, heard some good reports and some bad ones. These will be Ergo branded PCs so not quite so sure, can anyone recommend? VeryPC are currently pricing something up for me, but I've not seen a bad word about Very yet on here so I am keen to see what they come back with.

We bought 70 Zoostorms last summer, was a bit of a lead time and came to me with 2GB RAM less than they should have done. I was compensated for this though, and all of them worked absolutely fine. Only had 1 that has stopped working all this year, and they came out and fixed it within a couple of days. Not tried VeryPC I might get them to quote for this year's order. Just had quite a competitive quote from Ergo, anyone used them before?

I've done that already, but would like Ubuntu to map their Windows share when the user logs in. Geoff, any chance you could post your rough guide here?

You seem to be able to do it in PowerShell, but even after you've changed it, it still won't let you change it to anything else with the GUI. Still, it could be a workaround.
