FN-GM Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 This guide is really good - https://www.windows-noob.com/forums/topic/4045-step-by-step-guides-system-center-2012-r2-configuration-manager/ Just follow every step to the letter. Its very fussy with the prerequisites. 1
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Best resource - http://www.windows-noob.com. Its how I set it up here. 1
AJWhite1970 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I followed this guide and got mine running in about 5 hours including the clients on all the PC's and Endpoint Protection configured and installed. SCCM 1511 Quick Installation Guide Once you have 1511 installed, you then need to follow this one to upgrade to 1602 SCCM 1602 step by step upgrade guide Good luck, it's well worth doing Andrew 1

There is / was some useful resources on petenetlive.com but i think those were for an older version (some of the setup requirements are the same i think)
AJWhite1970 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 The one I missed the first time that meant starting again from scratch was changing the Collation in the SQL setup from the default to SQL_Latin1_General Oh how I laughed when later I found a command line that changed it retrospectively and would have saved me a couple of hours....
robsonma Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 thanks all for the Help, I will read through the docs this week and have a go setting up at the weekend. on my test server.
robsonma Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) Think so. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/server-cloud/products/system-center-2012-r2/purchasing.aspx Edited June 29, 2016 by robsonma
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Do you have to pay for sccm ? Yes. However, it is very cheap for schools, and if you're using EES already, you probably already have licenses for it anyway as its included with the standard CAL and desktop bundles. The only thing you have to pay extra for is the licenses to manage servers.
robsonma Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 Yes Plan to get mine from Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager | Microsoft | Products | - discounted software for education establishments once I have tested and had a play, worth you giving them a ring or email and check out on price. but will be Between £150-£300 depending on server and type of Lince you want.
ITJS2015 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I think our licensing only goes off how many staff we have hear. So I am not too sure if we will have to pay for it
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I think our licensing only goes off how many staff we have hear. So I am not too sure if we will have to pay for it The licensing covers a set of products - one of which is the SCCM CAL. So, you'd be covered for all desktop devices under that.

Ok, think I'd better clarify the licensing for SCCM. To run SCCM server you don't need any licenses. Instead, you have to have licenese for the machines you are managing. Desktops and Servers are licensed differently. Here, under EES, we pay for the Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite. This includes SCCM Client Management licenses for all desktop PCs. We then pay for 4 x SCCM Datacenter Server Management licenses, 1 per processor in our hyper-V cluster. Then we pay for SCCM standard server licenses for our other physical servers. There's no actual license to run the SCCM server software. I've attached the licensing guide for it.systemcenter2012r2_licensing_guide.pdf 1
ITJS2015 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I am saying our ess only covers client machines and windows server Not sccm license
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I am saying our ess only covers client machines and windows server Not sccm license So you only buy Windows Upgrade, Windows Server and Server CALs? Not the "Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite" pack?
ITJS2015 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Sorry buddy im confusing myself hear. We have a MAK key for a site license which goes off how many staff and student we have. Microsoft give us a estimate of how many license we should have for the school But our serve licenses we buy individual as we don't have that many servers on site
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Not particularly clear what scheme you buy your licenses under. Do you use EES (OVS-ES) or Select for the windows clients?
localzuk Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 We use ees In which case, you should check exactly what item you buy to cover the desktops. EES's "Education Desktop with Core CAL Suite" includes the CALs for SCCM for all desktops.
