Alternative to Impero, Possibly FREE?

I am currently out looking for free alternatives to Impero etc. The only one I have found is iCalc, is it good? What others would you recommend?

We found the performance to be OK on Windows XP (some connectivity issues, but it was free) but on Windows 7 it was unsatisfactory.

For a remote management tool, I would recommend GoverLan, does loads more than Impero (for IT Remote management), you pay per console (not client count).

VNCon? You have to deploy a client to all the machines and you can view and control screens. I use it for my digital signage and mac server. Good for basic stuff. Might be a bit fiddly to set up, but then that's what you get for free!

You get what you pay for. iTalc is the best of the free, and on anything modern it's crap.

Joking aside, for inventory and patching you can use the free versions of PDQ Deploy and PDQ Inventory.

 

For remote management, maybe system center if it is included in your licencing agreement? A bit overkill but has basic remote control stuff built in.

If you're looking for something basic and FREE, I would recommend taking a look at LanSchool Lite, which will give you thumbnail monitoring, as well as website/application/battery usage data. Useful for very light 'at a glance' management of the classroom you're in;

Looks promising as we're also looking for an Impero alternative, I've emailed their sales email address to ask for a quote for 600 devices (for the non free version). Will see what they come back with.
