DJ-1701 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) Can anyone suggest/recommend a laptop for my brother who dabbles with CAD software? This is the spec he gave me that he is after: - Smallish size (13 - 14 in) laptop - Fast (DJ Comment: I guess that means i5 and an SSD...) and not too expensive. - Refurb is a possible option. - Would like something sleek if possible. - Budget around £450. Thank you for your help. Edit: Also... - HDMI Output. Edited June 25, 2016 by DJ-1701
3s-gtech Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 A touch over budget, but with the CAD requirements perhaps an APU with more powerful graphics capabilities would be better than the usual Intel fare at this price? http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/hp-elitebook-745-g3-amd-pro-a12-8800b-8gb-256gb-ssd-windows-7-pro-14-inch-t-v1a64ea/version.asp 1
DJ-1701 Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Thanks 3s-gtech, unfortunately the requirement for HDMI has been added. The original specs though are spot on. Even the AMD processor is equivalent to an i5.
elsiegee40 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Have you looked at the Dell outlet? I have had some bargains from there over the years. http://Http://www.dell.co.uk/outlet 1

rich_tech Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) I would recommend a Dell Latitude E5570 as thats what I use in work, decent powered laptop and no slouch with HDMI on it (avoid the inspiron home user ranges imo) Edited June 25, 2016 by rich_tech 1
Cache Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Don't know about the suitability for CAD, however have you taken a look at the HP 250 G4 range? Insight - £370 Insight - £495 (if you need a pro/7 downgrade licence, that's the only difference I can see) 1
DJ-1701 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Many thanks to @ICTDirect_Dave, who also offered an amazing deal (as always!). Although my brother decided he wanted something more lightweight and slimmer with the same power... to which I say good luck to him for that price... Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. 1
