MkII Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Ordered mine yesterday. 11th hour before the price went up Same here
DJ-1701 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Thanks to @bossman's recommendation, just looking at this phone as a replacement (previous iPhone and current Windows phone user). Looks like brilliant specs... even has a Screen Protector pre-applied?! Out of interest, is there anything I should be aware of before saying take my money?
synaesthesia Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 No, throw your money at your screen and wait for it to arrive. Tis lovely. 1
denzal2k4 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Applied the update and enabled srgb mode, its much more subdued, but I think I was beginning to like the over saturatedness

MkII Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Thanks to @bossman's recommendation, just looking at this phone as a replacement (previous iPhone and current Windows phone user). Looks like brilliant specs... even has a Screen Protector pre-applied?! Out of interest, is there anything I should be aware of before saying take my money? Read the reviews, but from memory... Great... Camera hardware. Not fully utlised by software. Yet. Speed in use - fast memory and lots of it; CPU Alert slider/ mode (not unlike iPhone but 3 stage instead of 2) Dash charging Fingerprint sensor Aluminium unibody + easily replaceable parts (see teardown) Oxygen OS = Android+ 64gb ram Capacitive button option - I just love it on my OPO Price Good... Battery life (grumbles could have been bigger) Screen resolution with amoled plus pentile @1080p (good enough, low battery consumption and efficient) No SD card slot but OTG should you need either Yes screen protector is applied Edited July 11, 2016 by MkII 1
Popular Post FN-GM Posted July 11, 2016 Popular Post Posted July 11, 2016 64gb ram Now that would be amazing! 6
bossman Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 @DJ-1701 Nothing really, absolutely blown away by this phone, only thing is my bank doesn't deal with android pay services yet but not to worry @FN-GM has already validated that the android pay app works 1

Natwest doesn't support it, lots of angry people of Twitter about that! 2
DJ-1701 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Well, after doing more research, very tempted to take the leap... It's just typical that the price hike has already taken place, but I guess that lets me sleep on it if need be. Also a lot of their items accessories for the 3 aren't in stock at the moment. Anyway, out of interest, what do you all generally use for virus/malware protection on your devices?
cherd84 Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 Anyway, out of interest, what do you all generally use for virus/malware protection on your devices? Tried a few different ones on Android, paid for and free. Currently using Sophos free which has been pretty good. Probably the least intrusive. 1

bossman Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 @DJ-1701 Avast free, does a great job but there is also another called 360 which I used to use before it became bloated. 1

Don't use any if you don't install apps out of the play store there isn't really any need for AV, it doesn't do any harm but also doesn't do much either Some more info here: Antivirus for Android ? do you need it? | Android Central 3

Thanks.
Garacesh Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Rogue apps often do find their way onto the play store. They're often in the form of requesting every permission possible, so not technically Viruses, but they can still be malicious all the same. Viruses do sometimes end up on the Play Store, though. There have been lots written that understand when they're being run in a sandbox so they don't get detected by Google. AV is never a bad thing if it's from a reputable source. +1 for Sophos AV for Android. 1
DJ-1701 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 So... if I order it on Standard delivery for free I can get it on the 20th (Estimate)... but if I go with Priority for £5.99, I can get it on the 20th (Estimate).
DJ-1701 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Ok, phone ordered with Standard delivery... can't see the point in ordering with Priority delivery if it thinks it's going to be here around the same date. Thanks all.
MkII Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Mine arrived yesterday. Standard delivery, ordered on the 6th, delivered on the 12th. Very good I thought. Very impressed with it. Better quality than I'd imagined. I had an HTC M7 briefly and sent it back to get my OPO (which I stuck with) due to quality issues with that phone. I thought the weak point was going to be the flip case (which I much prefer) but that's excellent too. 1
FN-GM Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 After having mine for just under a week, I am finding the battery to be a letdown. Its not last as long as my iPhone 6 did.
synaesthesia Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I'd RMA it then, FN-GM. Mine will last 2 days solid, whereas my Nexus 5 would just make a day. Under the same usage, an iGroan 6 would last about 8 hours. Nothing is as bad as an Apple battery despite their piddle-poor attempts at battery saving!
