Deleting a folder when permissions have been accidentally disinherited

Deleting folders off a network share.. All of them have deleted, save one, which, for some reason unknown to me, has instead decided that Shift-Delete means "Disinherit permissions". So now it's sat there and I can't get rid of it because I don't have permission to access it, even if I log on with my domain admin account to the server which holds the share (locally)

Heard this problem before, I think you have to delete it via command line

Logged into the server as domain admin, go to the ownership settings of the folder and replace them with your domain admin account. Then go back in and change the rest of the security permissions.

 

That's always resolved that issue for me in the past.

Don't have permission to change ownership. It doesn't even display a current owner. The folder appears to have disinherited permissions, thus nobody has permission to change it's permissions.

Can't you take ownership, (Replace owner) edit permissions, and then delete?

Have you tried logging on to the server as local admin? This has worked for me in the past.

Format entire drive, tell staff that your OCD got the better of you. and then run, very very fast

can you view the permissions etc from another pc if you go to \\server\d$ (or whatever)?

This is all as the local admin account.

Both. There are only three local accounts on the machine (net user confirms this), the account I'm using, Guest (disabled, obviously) and the AntiVirus service account.

Unable to display current owner Change

 

Clicking Change has the same effect as clicking Continue, I get the same message (and Continue etc vanishes), as does the Owner line and all related text, so it just says Name: C:\path\to\folder

I am going to ask a stupid question, (only just started on this now so may have missed it) have you run a CHKDSK C: /F /R and restarted to force a full check disk and see if it (by some miracle) fixes any dodgy NTFS records

No, because I really don't want to take this server offline. It hosts Spiceworks amongst other things.

Could be the file is marked for deletion but is currently in use/locked and will disappear in the future?

Or try changing permissions on the folder above the problem folder in the hope it will inherit the permissions?

Done that. Didn't work. I ticked the Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object box, and it went through all the folders, got to the problematic one and said nah, not allowed.

I find it's the switching it on, that causes most of the problems...
