Screen in Reception

Hi,

We have a TV in Reception that we used to display pupils images and a welcome to our school message ect, I have not had 4 video's land in my inbox this morning from our head who wants them putting on the screen.

Currentley we have

 

(Comms Room)

XAmp running on a Windows Server 2012r2

(Reception)

We have a 32" TV With a Acer Aspire Revo R3600 with a intel Atom Processor. (currentley sounds like a jet taking off and running quite hot) running Linux Cent OS

Anyway the Server is running Wordpress with the Digital Signage (Version 3.0) Theme running on it by Nate Jones.

Anyway I need to display the Vids, does anyone have any ideas? (Needs to be free or very cheep)

Perhaps have a look at installing Xibo? You're half way there with Xampp. We (and many other edugeekers) have used it successfully.

I currently use Sadeo digital signage for 4 we have around but i its paid for so i would suggest you give Xibo a go. > Xibo Open Source Digital Signage | Open source multi-display managed digital signage

I would suggest Xibo too, I ran it successfully for years until we purchased Planet eStream. Installs as a server, gives a webpage for config and content, then install the client on the PC. Edited April 27, 2016 by CAWJames

Any update on how its gone for you? I find Xibo to be very frustrating piece of software... or maybe its the combination of Windows 8/10 or the machines im using...

What bit of Xibo is causing you frustration? In the early days the UI was fairly poor, but it's come on leaps and bounds since then imo!

Yes after watching some youtube vids I did get the hang of Xibo and it does the job. VERY Confusing at first until you view some vids even the Documentation didnt help much but its Just what we where looking for. We are using a

Acer AspireRevo AR1600 with windows 8.1 embedded for the screen.

Like I said maybe its the combination of the software being used. But I find the app just fails every now and again. When I get back into IT a little more ill have a little time to play with it... recently been side lined for a year into another role and I should be moving back some time soon. Hopefully.

Showpoint is really quite good I find - but it does mean that you have to put all of your content into a powerpoint presentation first.

My two pence - also a disliker or xibo - I use a machine running Windows 7 - auto logs on, then startup script opens a playlist on windows media player. Videos can be whatever you like. Also you can export videos from powerpoint if that is your desire.

 

A much simpler setup, but might be too basic for some peoples requirements.
