Zammo Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Hello all, We are looking to buy some replacement fibre modules as a few of our have failed over the last few months We are looking for replacements for the model shown here: I know nothing about how GBICs work. This one is obviously manufactured by Extreme themselves (we have Extreme switches) but can I get cheaper clones? If so what do I need to check to make sure they are compatible? Thanks! 1
Snuffkins Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 You can yes. Looking at that one you just need a 1gb SX SFP. If you search for the extreme part number you'll probably see alternative options anyway. In the past we've had alternative manufacturers optics, sometimes refurbed items as well and never had any issues. You might just want to check your warranty on the kit and whether using other optics would give you any issues with that side of things. 2
FragglePete Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I've used these lot before: GBICS.com - they do compatiable GBICs which I bought a few as a punt - all still working with no issues at the fraction of a price. Appreciate some kit may block non genuine GBICs, but using HP ProCurve here with no issues so far. Pete 2
fiberoptics Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) We've been using Fiberstore compatible transceivers in our Extreme switches and they always work great as switches report them as "official" when checking the transceiver status. If you're looking for low cost and 100% compatible transceivers, I recommend this Extreme 10051. Edited April 22, 2016 by fiberoptics
stevenlong1985 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Search results for " GBICs" | Ebuyer.com I use Startech, they do the job
