[ipad] is it possible to connect to Wifi via a QR Code (witha proxy)

We have occasional problems with the Ipads losing the wireless connection, and hten I have to manually enter the password and the proxy details.

it just occurred to me that you can scan a QR code to connect to the Wifi on an Android device. It doesn't seem to work on an iPad.

 

Has anyone found an App that will do it? It would need to include a proxy as well.

 

My thought is I could put the QR code on the trolley and then if any don't connect the kids can just scan it rather than having to find me.

Have you looked into why the iPads are dropping out as that seems like your biggest issue.

 

What WiFi and switches are you using? I've recently just upgraded a school that was 10/100 and the WiFi would throw people off due to the amount of connections and so little bandwith.

 

Either way, the QR code thing knowing Apple, probably isn't possible nor is it an actual fix really!

We are using Huawei wifi, and I use Meraki to push out profiles. It normally works quite well, but I changed a profile in Meraki yesterday which kicked everyone off the Wifi, and then since they weren't connected they couldn't pick up the corrected profile.

 

The ipads actually have a Wifi Profile on them from Apple Configurator, but they don't seem to use it. I don't really understand how it works, but there has to be an easier way to connect them all.

Not really helpful for re-connecting your devices, but Meraki also has a method for pushing out WiFi details and this seems to be persistent unless of course removed from Meraki.

 

From what I can see online regarding QR Code it doesn't seem possible to integrate the proxy settings into them and have it being interpreted by the device. Others seem to talk about using WPAD to distribute PAC file settings over DHCP.

Its not possible on iOS devices, but you can do it on android - without proxy settings though...

I wouldn't advise it anyway as the password is not encrypted so anyone with any QRcode reader app could read it.

I know with Apple Configurator, if I combined some settings, the profiles would fail to load, so in the end, I made separate profiles for restrictions and WiFi, then this fixed my issues, sill the same settings but seperated. Maybe on Meraki try and create just a profile for WiFi?

Using Apple Config 2, I added 2 profiles to each iPad, one is the meraki management, and the other just contains the Wifi Details (you can see this on the iPad in settings, and the details are all listed in plain site. )

It is set to Auto Join, but it doesn't seem to work. Even if I select the SchoolWifi in settings it asks me to enter the password.

The ipads were also supervised in AC2.

 

Then in Meraki I have a profile with the restrictions on, and a profile with the Wifi details in. I can see this profile on the iPad as well, but again, if the connection drops, it doesn't automatically reconnect, even through the details are there in the Profiles section.

 

 

We have 2 proxies, one allows access to Youtube and one doesn't. What I was attempting to do yesterday, was switch the ipads between them via Meraki, so I could enable YouTube for a lesson and then remove it.

I had 2 profiles set up, so I was removing one and adding another, However, as soon as it picked up the change, they just dropped off the wifi and I have had to reconnected them all manually.

It could be possible that the AC2 profile could be conflicting with the Meraki one?

Unfortunately It sounds like it's removed the WiFi settings before installing the new one. :S So it sounds like it might be better to have them point to a PAC file which you could amend to a different proxy if you want them to switch over from NonYouTube proxy to YouTube proxy.
