Can't stand Channel 4's online presence for F1. iPlayer/bbc.co.uk/f1 just worked. Channel 4 however is unworkable. Want to skip the bumpf to get to the race/highlights? Fine... just wait 3 minutes for adverts... ARGH

Must admit I've not tried the C4 site since I use a mixture of Autosport (paid sub), Skysports/f1 and BBC and it seems to have all the bases covered.

 

Alas the adverts are always going to be there for C4 content as that's how they are making the money (the same is true for the skysports stream if you don't login of course)

Absolutely, but sit through one load of adverts to get to the content at all, fine. Then skip to where you want... more adverts. And skip again because you're not quite there... more adverts!

Each driver will have to take the Safety car for a lap of the track and that will determine their starting position.

What does everyone think? Like it or hate it.

 

My thoughts are, how are they going to keep it clean? At the moment drivers have tear off strips. How are they going to stop rubber, bugs and water? I guess the water isnt really a problem if the have sealed the glass with some glass like Dodo or the G1 products, alternatives to RainX.

Reviewing the photos of it on track in P1 on Ricardo's car this morning it looks a lot cleaner than the Ferrari Helo concept.

As for cleaning it, well Rain-X is one solution for the rain and dirt, but they will likely have to go down the tear-off strips the same as in Nascar and WEC.

Dunno. The fella's at the traffic lights near me do it in about 0.5 secs. They haven't learned NO yet.

I think they are going to employ some of the people normally on the Northern Road in London who pounce on your windscreens whenever you stop at the lights..... but yes a rip off... might add an extra second to stops

"The Red Bull device has passed its first hurdle - it performed satisfactorily enough in FIA tests in deflecting a 20kg tyre and wheel assembly fired at it at 225km/h to be considered as the solution the FIA will adopt.

"But there remain questions as to how the screen - and therefore visibility - would be affected by debris and wet weather. Red Bull believe they have solutions to this - a combination of tear-off strips that can be removed at pit stops and a surface that repels water, as well as coating for the inside to reduce glare. These are not considered by the FIA to be potential deal breakers."

 

I prefer the way the halo looks, tbh :/ the sweeping lines of it are more in keeping with an F1 car, IMO.

Max Verstappen replaces Daniil Kvyat at Red Bull | F1 News

 

And they don't mean "for 2017"; they mean from the Spanish GP. Verstappen is now a Red Bull driver and Kvyat is a Toro Rosso driver again. Strange news!

Well not that shocking when you consider that the TR boys have been having a bit of friction between them hence the appointment of Jon Booth, and DK has been a little bit crash happy this season so far.

 

At least it still within the team "family".

One of the F1 YouTuber's I follow has already twitted to Codemasters to ask if they are putting driver transfers into the latest game

He has a bit of growing up to do, but that's no bad thing. Schumacher was the same, Hamilton was the same (and can still be), building experience onto his youthful determinism and we could see great things especially nurtured by the right team.

To be honest, I think this was the main reason they've done this. It's a much easier decision to move from TR to Ferrari than Red Bull to Ferrari.

Redbull are claiming this has nothing to do with past performances but future potential, not convinced to be honest. Very harsh and not really fair on Sainz either who has also been doing a solid job in the Toro Rosso. Two more names to add to the list of F1 talent Redbull have discarded, Sainz and Kvyat.

Red Bull's new driver program has always been harsh--remember Jean-Eric Vergne?

"You're dropped." "Who for?" "You're just dropped."

"Kvyat has been promoted ahead of me after one season less, can I keep my seat now...?" "No."

 

And Kvyat has never really fulfilled his promise in the RBR in the same way Ricciardo has. It took him most of last season to get comfortable, and RBR are desperate to keep Verstappen in the family and stop his Dad (who is being very pushy with Max's career) from holding talks elsewhere. If Verstappen weren't about, Kvyat would have had more time, but unfortunately for him (and Sainz, who is excellent in his own right), this once-in-a-generation wunderkind is on the grid.

Can't really say he's been rubbish this year, given it's mostly been engine problems that have screwed him over! I agree with the knob part, mind you.

 

As has been said, Sainz is a good enough racer, just unfortunate really that Verstappen is the new kid to the block and could go further.

For the teams, it's about getting the long term prospects and the short term gains. Verstappen will ultimately go further career wise than Sainz, so it makes sense for him to make the pick.

 

You can't run this as friends and take into account feelings of drivers, it's a money game where you need to think what's best for the team.
