Convert DVD to SCORM

Hello,

 

I am just learning about SCORM and I have a few DVDs that need to be transferred to SCORM format. Does anyone know how to do that?

Not an expert in SCORM, but it's mostly to do with elearning, multiple choice questions etc, not video. You'd have to be more specific

You don't just turn a DVD into SCORM you need to write it into it

Also SCORM died about 5 years ago, and the replacement cmi5, doesn't seem to be that popular

Thank you for the information. I know I am very ignorant on the topic, but how would I go about making a DVD SCORM compliant?

You wouldn't, they're 2 different things. One's a video, the other's a elearning platform.

And this is on the understanding they are in-house DVDs that you have permission to adapt, and not bought ones?

You could put the parts of a DVD into SCORM format, given time and effort. You'd want to transcode the video to an HTML5 friendly format, separate the chapters into different categories within the SCORM, and author the containers to make it work. Not an obvious or easy process, and in honesty a waste of time. First and foremost - are you licensed to do this with this disc? Check that!

You could easily convert your DVD to a video file and upload to an LMS. If this is all you need to do, then forget SCORM. If you want to have some kind of interaction/activity around the video, you could look at putting the video in to a SCORM file (but you will likely need suitable software - i.e. Articulate/Captivate), or utilising the LMS functionality if suitable.
