Can I deploy Windows 10 using old school cloning after upgrade from 7?

Hi All,

 

We are a small school deploying a handful of new Lenovo M83 ThinkStations. They have come pre-installed with Win7 Pro. I would like to upgrade one to Win 10 and get it configured then do a simple clone to the other two systems that I need to deploy to the same work area. These systems have their Windows license embedded in BIOS, I believe.

 

Is there a chance in heck that this is going to work for us, be legal, and result in a Windows install that can be activated. If not what do you suggest? I see info on Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer is this what I need? Will this even work without a volume license deal?

Reading some other articles about this online, it seems unlikely to work. Your best bet is to upgrade each machine individually.

 

You may be able to upgrade the machines using your system image, but you should check this on 1 or 2 machines to ensure this works.

If you want to create an Image you will need to download Windows 10 from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center, install it from scratch, enter the MAK key and then install and configure all your software. Then you can SysPrep the machine and create an image which you can then image on to your other computers.
