We've got Xibo set up here but it's quite simple at the moment - basic powerpoint, BBC news ticker and a clock...

 

I was thinking about putting the Impero Computer Availability on it, but the website that Impero give is laid out a bit poorly? If I could pull that information into my own HTML page, I may be able to get it looking a bit cleaner!

 

What do you guys put on yours? I've seen a few older threads with this question, but I want fresh ideas!

And photos! Let's see how you lay it out?

I'm currently working on implementing XIBO, which will display BBC news ticker, countdown to exams and a image slideshow

We run Sedao ImageFlyer on 2x screens, 1x portrait and 1x landscape. Both run the same content but with slightly different layouts. I can't get a screengrab just at the moment but I'll try and get one up later. Interested in seeing what others have though these days.

Hi I run xibo in 3 schools all with similar layout (Academic Trust) I have different content on each box so that it has it's own feel per school. I've attached what I have. I use LSS to slide show images in the big black box, plus I have the occasional video, scroll bar at the bottom which is welcome message and also what clubs are running and when. Bottom right is a place holder for school, trust and twitter logos. Box above that is a scrolling images with each house's house point scores plus a leader board which I update weekly as haven't had the time to work out an automated way yet.

I wrote a webpage that embeds iframes of impero availability, google calendar, news, weather, and in the centre a slideshow page I also wrote.

 

Along the top is a clock with a countdown to the next lesson.

 

Runs on a rpi2 with screenly-ose

Ours is very simple. Just the time/date, a window for video/photos, and a scrolling welcome message that gets updated manually once a week. The rest is just a background.

 

When I get more time I might try adding something else such as a news feed but it seems to do the trick at the moment so if it 'aint broke...

Having looked after a digital signgae system in a school I worked it, I can truly say it is hardwork.

Teachers would send me info for an club or event and I would then turn this into an advert. The system I had was not the greatest and so adding stuff took a bit longer that I ideally would have liked.

 

What do you guys look for in a digital signage system, cost?, ease of use? features like powerpoint? integration with other systems?

I saved a powerpoint called EventOneOffs onto a shared network drive and told the staff to create the poster on it and tell me when it's done. I just export the image from powerpoint and push it to the signage. They also tend to print out the poster they created and stick it on a few walls. Then because it's an image I can also push it to the website, and if they don't like the advert they only have themselves to blame. I take it off the signage when the event is done, which I admit is still a faff.

I also do something similar with photos of trips but that is more hassle due to some kids not having "photo or website permission" within SIMS.

 

Using Sedao is fairly easy, I have setup the office staff with a login to 1x machine and they can change Newsfeed messages (EG Maths club is cancelled) and I have a script which copies the .xml file every 30 minutes to the other players. Sure it copies nothing most of the time, but saves them chasing me every time they make a change.

At a previous place, I was looking at ShowPoint and randomly select powerpoints from a folder on the network because it was just photos stuck on a USB drive plugged into the TV (and hadn't been updated for a few years)

 

but unfortunately it will only grab the current powerpoint from the folder, where I wanted to have a number of short current powerpoints and have it randomly select/go though them, so teams could update/create little slide sets for their events.

We've automated this. Created a macro in PowerPoint to export current slide as a specifically-sized .jpg in a specific location on our Xibo server. Xibo then has a timeline event to go the the webpage http://ourxiboserver/exportedppt.jpg

 

Involves no interaction from me as office staff are able to run a macro in PowerPoint (with training!)

@dry - Doesnt that automatically overwrite the existing slide? or do they have to give it a name as part of the macro

Sorry forgot to say ours is mainly for notices.

 

I've got three 'presentations' that the office staff edit- each of which saves (and overwrites every time the macro is run) the slide as a different .jpg file- slide1.jpg, slide2.jpg and slide3.jpg for example. They generally keep one for notices and two for events/things that change regularly.
