So here we are with our wood. 3/4 MDF. The Site Super Apprentice is halfway through a table top build too and showed me his photos this morning... all very exciting!

We are upscaling a original Gameboy, No emulation. So the games run from the 90s hardware. One of the issues we are having is outputting the gameboys screen to a vga monitor, and then emulating or applying a filter to the screen so it looks like the screen seen on the Gameboy. We intend to use fullsize carts also.

That's immense. Why have you chosen to do that? Are the emulators rubbish?

No not at all.... the plan was to emulate the gameboys hardware and use a game frontend. We have quite a large following of "fans" who wanted to see it done "properly" If you have a read on the forum (in the link i posted above) you'll see what i mean.... LOL

I'm so excited to get our cab finished. Just got some deets of a vinyl printer. Where do you get your vinyl from for your cabs?

I plan to build one of these at some point. Need to have enough disposable income to buy the buttons. Make magazine and Tested have videos up about holding one.

Where do you get your vinyl from for your cabs.

 

Just the local printer, or you can get the carbon stuff on ebay (like we used on the bartop one)

I do like that carbon stuff... makes it look sleek! Gonna look at different options once we have the cab together and I know exactly how big it is. Think we need to buy a dremel tool for the t-molding groove too.... I really do want it to look the biz.

Also whats the secret to getting those rounded edges on the wood paneling. Beautiful finish I must say.

My house mates & I invested £100 in one of these old beauties way back in 2004 when we were in our second year at uni. It lived on the landing at the top of our stairs.

 

SNK neo geo arcade machine boards, harness, etc... | eBay

 

It could take four cartridges and we could easily change it from free play to coin-op. We had a couple of the metal slug games a beat-em-up and something else.

 

It was a great little earner and contributed toward a rather large beer fund.

 

It amazes me that you can build your own for next to nothing nowadays.

 

I had an SNK NeoGeo back in the day... One of my friend's dads did some work on it and he had one. I got a bit addicted to metal slug and he gave me it when he got bored with it and upgraded to a dreamcast!

We don't build to order anymore, too time consuming... but for reference, the Space Invader went for £1000ish (no games/software/or computer, but included a hd monitor and all other hardware)...the bartop went for £500ish

 

the round edges...is know to us as "The pringle Can Curve"

 

we started with building our own......its just a hobby really, when/if we have time...we'll build a "themed cab" and then sell it on for another project... the Gameboy is our current project

Nice, there is only a couple of flat pack ebay sellers at the moment and there seems to be a lack of bits to actually complete a machine.

 

This guy for example sells some good stuff, but without any fixings or instructions!!
