We've obviously moved to the top of the queue for the upgrade to 2.4 as we've started getting calls to book a database check before migration.

Just wondering what the feedback is from users who have already migrated, any issues with the data now hosted at Tucasi rather than on-site? I'm guessing backup and maintenance is now their issue rather than mine?

Cheers

We had it done end of last year, there are some speed issues if you are using the comm modules as all the data is online so when its syncs it sends all data to online database. thinks just seem to take 2-3 times longer.

Support are working on the issues, The only warning i would give once you have upgraded you cannot go back to local so if you lose internet connection then you cannot do anything.

Anyone got further thoughts on this?

One of my schools wants to start using the classroom component and I'm thinking a single upgrade + pushing out a web link would be easier than tracking down laptops for individual installs. (Unless someone knows how to do it silently).

Does this mean it gets round the 'daft' requirement for one of the end users to be the 'sync' every morning they login to SCO? Why this isn't just scripted or ran as a service directly on the file server I'll never know.

EDU software: shoddy scripting because we know we can get away with it.

Yes. There is no sync.

So presumably there's a service running on your MIS server (such as Groupcall) which sends the info to SCO in the cloud?

No, the database is all online so the software connects to their database. This is instead of your local database syncing with their database. All it means is you need internet connectivity to be able to use SCO and if their database goes down it stops the software working.

Everything you do in SCO is live on their database. Any payments that come in are displayed instantly. There's no waiting for the transactions to download/upload.

Excuse me if i have misunderstood but how does the MIS information get up to their online database if there is no sync?

... and is there still a local SCO client or does it all work through a browser?

TIA

Yes one of your clients have some jobs setup so when it runs it downloads the dara from MIS and then sends that data up to database.

We start the a client first thing in the morning so it runs the sco jobs and send lasted data to tucasi.

If we need to update during the day we just restart the client software and wait 10mins.

Too many services moving to the cloud that need to be up 100% during the school day. Much prefer everything locally hosted and having our own school cloud remote access.

It's bad enough when the finance off canot get on to PSF to do some work..

Thanks @rama1712 - so not very different to the existing local system - we have to do an upload/update from the nominated workstation for that.

Not sure why they have not used Groupcall or other sync to do this overnight - wondering if we can call the upload job using a schedule so it is not dependent on that person logging in (they work part time, varying hours).

According to them and I have hounded them over this a few other things you must login to the software to do the upload etc a schedule will not work and I have tried.

@LeMarchand did you find out how to install it Silent please?

Sorry, but no-one has made a decision on which way we're jumping. Got to have a play with scripting a silent install for a different product later, so may just try a few switches for both and see what happens.

I emailed them and I got this reply

"we don't currently have a facility to offer a silent install"

You got a timely reply from them?!!!

I tried a couple of switches to no avail. However -and bear in mind that this is only tested to the "Hey! It launches and looks like it may be working properly!" level - copying the SCO folder from a working machine (C:\SCO if you accepted the defaults) seems to work. Then just use GP to create suitable shortcuts. Not tried the Dinner Money component as we still don't have it AFAIK.

Doh!

The above was 2.3.301(?) which is the last(?) pre 2.4 one.

Yeah, the whole "copy folder thing didn't seem to work for 2.4 (it launched, but didn't recognise the passwords).

Anyhow:

So instead of just firing up any client, we have to start a nominated client before anyone else can use SCO? Seems a crazy idea to me!

Yes otherwise the data isn't up-to-date. Baffling this aspect can't run on the server as a service once every 24 hours etc..
