Morning,

We have 100 odd iPads in school which we manage using a combination of Apple Configurator and Meraki. Students have started to program alarms to go off throughout the day and are leaving unsavoury notes on the devices. Anyone know of a way to block this? Driving us mad!!!

Thanks

It used to be changing the wallpapers and locking the devices out.... since we've been able to stop that, setting the alarms is the biggest problem for us now!

How have you been able to stop wallpaper changes and locking? Has Meraki added this to their MDM or is this Apple?

The functionality to stop wallpaper changes only works on supervised devices and is at present only available on Profile Manager.

I'm guessing locking the devices out simply means setting a passcode which you can clear via Meraki and Profile Manager.

Thanks AngryITGuy.

Hoped this was something I'd missed in the Meraki MDM. We don't use OSX Server so I don't think Profile Manager is an option. We have a single iMac which I use for Configurator to supervise the iPads, then Meraki's MDM.

I've been clearing the passcodes using Meraki but ideally there would be an option to disable users from setting this in the first place, without having to set one ourselves.

One thing you can do in the upcoming 9.3 update... is block any specific apps from being launched... notes and settings appear in the list of apps you can block.

The new restrictions are available on all decent 3rd party MDM's such as Lightspeed, Casper and Meraki SM with the free licences less than 100 iPads, not just profile manager ( which is a poor MDM solution)

I must be losing the plot as we use Meraki SM and have done for years and I can't see the options to stop the end user form changing the wallpaper.

If (like us) you're on a 'legacy' licence this isn't available, sadly. We're either going to have to cough up the dough or migrate them to a new, free-under-100-devices Meraki instance.

Looks like that's the case with us too.

Can't believe I let that slip by without realising, guess I know have something to look in to during half term.
