Two year warranty on our obsolete Sanyo Cr**tastic projectors, £580 (ex vat?)

Cost of super education spec Brand new Sanyo Projector with three year warranty £480 (ex vat).

Sorry but I cant see how this works. To extend cover to all 12 of our promethean boards and projectors will cost 10K. But hey we get 12 free pens!!!!111 wooot!

Easy.....

Extended warranty = insurance premium = big profit.

Check the small print for the extended warranty. Unless the projector dies you may have problems claiming on an extended warranty. We had a number of projectors still covered by warranty that had degraded image quality. We were told we would have to pay for 'deep' cleaning of the optics (£200) even though we had carried out filter cleaning.

We chose to replace them with a different brand.

Watch out though, if your old projectors have a different 'throw' or lens offset you may find you have to move the mount, and if you are really unlucky you may find that the supplier has used a mount that is no longer made and cannot be adapted to the new projectors so you need to replace the mounts too.

We have been through this pain and now make sure that the mounts supplied by our AV contractor are 'universal' .

Isnt the Promethean warranty for the projector, board, speakers, pens, amp, switch box e.c.t

The price seems a lot as well sure it was £120 per board system last time I spoke to them.

Its £580 for the projector and £220 for the board. Both for two years warranty.

Also as far as the mounts go, its still worth buying a universal mount to get a new projector rather than keep the "old" knackered ones.

Also the pricing structure is very revealing.

£580 warranty for a product that costs £500 tells me there is a high chance of failure.

£220 warranty for a product that retails at £1500 (for the board only) tells me its unlikely to fail, or at least will be cheap to fix. (our only failure so far has been the power supply, £4.99 from wilkos).

Not worth the paper they are written on. 3 year warranty on projector and board comes pretty much as standard with the bulb covered as well. Only trouble is the warranty on the bulb only stands if less than 500 hours working time, after this there would be a charge for a new bulb.

Cheaper to cost in new projector.

Warranty the Activboards themselves yes - but not projectors because 3 years down the line when the projector does fail you can get one twice as bright, twice as small, twice the resolution for half the price and get a free bulb and 3 years warranty..........

When I tend to get the warranty reminders from Promeathean they generally go in the bin. As you have said in the original post - the cost of a projector is generally cheaper then the warranty bill.

Up to now we have had no issues with our ACTIVboards also so ive never felt the need to extend the warranties on those.
