Most likely flecks of dust on one of the interior mirrors/lenses.

I believe you can get people who will clean them, but as ours were out of warranty we bit the bullet and bought new (non-Sanyo) ones as this happened to every. single. one.

I did try taking one apart for a look, but it was too fiddly for me. Managed to get a lot of it cleaned and it was better, but still not 100%.

P.S. Impressed by the lack of rubbish stuck around the screen!

That looks like a DLP chip fault. Generally they are a nightmare to change. Looks like it could be a replacement job. Might be an idea to contact Sanyo support.

had a problem slightly like this at a previous school - started as a few spots but got worse day by day

turned out to be one of the LCD screens inside the projector failing - not viable to fix so either replace or claim under guarantee I reckon

Oooh, youve got the "stars" problem. We have some NEC NP200 projectors that are doing this at the moment.

I rang NEC a while back, they said it would cost +£500 to get it repaired as thr DLP chip has had it.

We're finding that these projectors have been left on for long periods therefore we think the chip is overheating.

We replaced a projector today and my tech gave the teacher the magic star clearer remote which will make the projector act like a brand new projector. Safe to say that i dont think the teacher has cottoned on to it been a new epson projector remote.

Had that with my benq dlp projector and as others have said it's a fault with the dlp chip. Beyond economical repair. It's an option of make do or replace I'm afraid.

Your only saving grace would be if it's still under warranty.
