After a TV for signage

I have never in my life seen LCD's with screenburn, and there are many of them around this school that are damn near, if not over 10 years old. Certainly have an old Acer signage display in one location which must be near 10 also and no screenburn on that despite showing fairly static content.

I've got an 8 year old LCD TV that has screen burn. Not so noticeable until you put a single colour across the display.

we just purchased standard LG TV's and they have ran flawlessly non-stop for literally 4 years. No screen burn, spot on and look neat (and cheap).

 

We've had digital signage running via Apple TV (1st gen) which was fine, but we are now moving towards using Google Slides and Xibo.

 

Funnily enough we have exactly the same at our school. No issues at all.

Not quite as cheap, but we recently bought a 55" tv from Aldi for use as a sign: Bauhn 55" Full HD TV £299.99 & 40" 4K Ultra HD TV £249.99 @ ALDI - Hot UK Deals

 

For the price, we're not too worried if it doesn't last too long... It will see us through for a while hopefully until prices on that size and above start to come down a bit more.

Not had any issues with our screens, a mix of Visteon(!) LG, Samsung, and Panasonic. Many years of use between them, and they were cheap enough to not worry about long warranties.

Consumer panels are the way to go in my opinion. LCD technology is immune to burn in. It is just the life of the CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamps) or LED backlight you need to worry about. Plasma, AMOLED and CRT (!) do suffer from burn in. As others have posted the other componentry (capacitors are biggest culprits) will not be of the same quality as the industrial grade panels. LG TV's are good as they will play a video from a usb stick. If you export a video rom PowerPoint this can be the basis of a poormans sneakernet system. But I got sick fo changing the content manually and I am investigating Xibo or chromecast based solution. Edited February 4, 2016 by Alis_Klar

I went for a Sharp panel in the end... cheap, lightweight and thin. I have a small Asus eee box behind there that plays videos from a playlist. Chuffed to bits with it.

I saw an AMOLED panel on the techsupportgore sub reddit the other day that had crazy screen burn. Will see if I can dig it out at some point.

What software do people use? I've gone with a raspberry pi behind the tv, running screenly-ose, which loads a webpage on the server I wrote, javascript to show the time and time to next lesson, iframes of calendar, news, impero's "computers not in use" page, and weather, and a javascript slideshow I wrote in the middle

Even if it does play videos there is still a high chance of it burning out. The LG one at one of our primaries didn't last a year.

 

Four LG boggo standardo TV's here that have been on 8hrs a day every day for almost 3 years now, think we paid mid 200's for them.

Saying that, all of my last TV's at home get way more use than that in a day and are still running now in the bedroom/kids room.

I've never seen burn in on a screen in real life (just pictures)

 

We have a mix of LG, Cello and Sony TVs here. They are on 10 hours a day most days. The one in the dining hall just has each day's menu on it

We have two LG TVs with older SFF PCs connected running Windows 7. One of the PCs is also the Xibo server so runs XAMPP and MySQL. Works well for us.
