Dell Venue Pro 11's and Windows 10

Finding a lot of conflicting info here..

 

I got this page saying it doesn't support Windows 10, but I got this page giving a BIOS update that improves Windows 10 functionality.

I know these tablets were talked about a lot a while back and I'm wondering if anybody else got them and had any success?

 

Are they only able to be updated via Windows Updates? Even with BIOS update A14 applied I can't get them to PXE boot to our 2012 R2 deployment server. I'm using an official docking station for it so it's hard-wired in, and it does pick up the network if I boot into Windows 8.1

I've got Windows 10 running on my venue pro. I installed it via a usb stick, not pxe though.

Is yours a T06G001, by any chance? (Under the back cover there's a sticker, Reg Model T06G, Reg. Type T06G001.)

 

Edit: Even with A14 applied I can't boot into USB either. Going to try burning W8 to a stick and seeing if I can do that.

Edit 2: Can boot into W8.1 x86 but not W8.1 x64. Will have to try W10 x86

Edit 3: There isn't a W10 x86, apparently. Just "W10"

Edit 4: Yes there is. I'm an idiot.

Edit 5: That's taken to W10 now. So it looks like you have to update the BIOS and use a x86 installer. I could've sworn our MDT environment was x86. Ah well.

By pure fluke the USB NICs we bought to use with Intel Compute Sticks will boot Venue 11 Pro devices via PXE

 

Deployed our first Windows 10 image on it using our new MDT setup on Friday, just inject the drivers for this little beast and away you go...

I did manage to get W10 installed, I had to do it off a USB stick and it had to be the x86 version. Still haven't got PXE boot working but since they don't have their own network ports, it would be one-by-one into the dock anyway. Only benefit to using PXE boot is it's a wired connection so it's faster and more stable, and drivers can be loaded via MDT as part of deployment. But if we have to do it via USB sticks, it's not too much longer of a process. Can just stick the drivers on the USB sticks and do it that way.

Mmhm, I found those pages, 'cept mine isn't a 7130 or a 7139, it's the 5130 model.

I linked the imaging recommendations for the 5130 model in my OP. The confusion/difficulty was because the information was inconsistent. It said "Only boots to Win8.1 x86" but then there were BIOS updates that added bugfixes for W10.

I know its an old thread but i have got windows 10 on a venue 11 5130 64bit everything works except touch screen and audio nothing is showing as missing from device manager has anyone else came across this.

Are all of your drivers up to date or are your devices using Microsoft drivers? I built some Dell Venue 11 7130 devices as windows 10 a couple of days ago and once I installed all drivers from the Dell site everything worked as normal.

I gave up on it, personally. The Venue's are still running 8.1 here, though they're an incredibly under-utilised resource anyway (lack of keyboard'll do that) so they don't take up too much of my time.

It would be nice if I could get W10 working on them just to bring them into line with everything else, but 8.1 isn't too bad (on a tablet, that is..)

I did my pro 11 off a stick. worked fine, all drivers off windows update/built in.

Thanks everyone at least i know it can be done, just re-deploying the image with no drivers and going to install the manually to ensure no conflicts. What i did find strange was there were no HID devices and none hidden either.

I've had that with touchscreens before - sometimes you'll find they've installed under a generic USB driver and happily sit there in that collapsed list, not working. Uninstalling the generic driver for the device (cross checked against the hardware ID) gets them working.
