Basically it boils down to the funnier/helpful you are (but mainly funny), the more rep you get.

Unless the default values have changed that should be about right. I believe the coloured dots are the percentage to your next star but we will need to wait for a forum admin to provide the exact values for them.

Silver stars are received once you have 4 bronze stars and you earn your fifth which converts them into the silver star.
