Another borked update trashes Outlook 2010 users not sure if anything else is broken!

Haha and this is why we delay updates by at least 3-4 weeks before letting them go out goodgame MS!

Is this why every time I launch Outlook it turns the reading pane off and I also cannot see the People Pane under View?

Could be, so far I've only had OL 2010 users on W7 complaining but what else the may have broken who knows.

Try uninstalling it and see.

Ive been messing around for a couple of hours this morning and only just seen it pop up on the news feeds.

Blinkin' heck! Uninstalling that update cured my Outlook problem, LOL. Arggghhh! I wish I saw this thread earlier before deleting my profile and the Application Data folder

Use GAFE. Never have a problem then, in fact for what staff really do we're thinking of moving completely away from Microsoft Office to Google Apps. Cut out a big expenditure on license fee's and we won't have these kind of problems! Admin staff, myself and the head of course will still need to keep Office.

After last month's shambles (and others earlier this year), this morning is the first Exploit Wednesday in about 4 years I've not immediately pushed out updates to our test area--i.e. our office.

 

And bloomin' glad I am now too!

 

EDIT: I like that the very first improvement and fix listed is "Adds administrative support to prevent Outlook 2010 from booting into safe mode." Ergo you'd think they'd test safe mode as part of their QA process and maybe catch the problem...

You are not comparing the same things there.

 

I assume you are referring to accessing your GAFE mail via web browser. If you used Outlook to access your GAFE mail then you would have the problem.

I assumed he meant use GAFE instead of any part of Office. Then you only have to worry about your net connection.

I understand the point, but not wishing to labour the point or derail the thread, its comparing two different things.

 

Saying 'If Outlook is causing you problems move to GAFE' doesn't make sense.

Saying 'If Outlook is causing you problems move to using your provider's web interface' does make sense.

Yup, another example where holding back on updates for a short while works. Wish I had a team and time to do thorough testing each time updates appeared! If I did it at the moment, I'd do nothing else.

That's what I meant. Was unsure if people where referring to exchange which I thought you had to use an outlook client on? I could be wrong though never played with exchange, never had to. To little gain for a lot more work IMO.

Therefore, this issue doesn't push me towards GAFE, but it does push me further from deploying Outlook and more specifically from pushing out updates straight away. One month, no less, other than for things like Definition Updates and Malicious Software Removal Too.

Yup, works in the other extreme too. I (almost) never push updated our straight away - I let people with more resources (and who are better techs than me ) test them first. However I also felt on this community to pick up when a critical patch that can't be delayed needs to be installed same day.

I kinda feel Outlook is a bit of an outdated concept nowadays with Google/O365 etc about. Unless you have no Internet that is and want to access your mail... but when does that happen (apart from when JANET gets borked )
