Hi, I have an urgent issue where students cannot save any excel, powerpoint or word documents to their network share. This started late yesterday with no known changes. Students can access and see work on their drive but cannot save to it obviously suggesting this isn't a hardware issue.

Check that write permissions for the students are on there... I'll just grab my pupil shared permissions...

Kids have this:

That's on the actual pupil shared root folder.

Oh I read it as if they couldn't save to THE network share... not their home drives. My bad!!! Listen to @Michael!!

Similar thing, apart from the permissions will be different for each user. Hence a script makes sense to resolve these issues, as there could literally be thousands of files and folders! :)

office documents require students to have delete permissions for it to save, something do to with the way office works. this would explain why notepad files have no problems

It's to do with the temporary recovery file that Office creates while you are editing. When the document is saved, that is deleted. It shouldn't stop you from saving if the permissions are wrong; you just end up with loads of .tmp files hanging round

I tried to setup a hand in area a while back, without delete permissions and office 2013 just would not save.....maybe I was doing something else wrong but my Google Foo at the time took me to a page which stated that if the user didn't have delete permissions the documents wouldn't save, as soon as I gave delete permissions it was fine..... just my experience :)

Had this ongoing issue since Office 2010. Resolution for my school came from a fab chap at Capita who was visiting to install a server. It was all to do with permissions on the Windows / Temp folder. Needed to set it so that Everyone has full permissions. Worked a treat.

Issue still occurring I have multiple if not all students that cannot save any office 2013 documents to their network share. I also have a number of staff who can save to this particular network drive but saving is extremely slow (10 minutes). I have tested it with a .txt file and these save almost instantly the problem lies with word, excel and powerpoint and probably any other office documents.I have added the file extensions as an exception within my anti virus and all have delete permissions which I believe could cause this issue.

When they try to save do that get an error? Something like you do not have permission?

We had an issue where students could open files on their home drive, but when they went to file save as and selected the mapped drive an error came up. If so I will rack my brain to remember what we did.

When they try to save a box pops up saying connecting this is when the user locates the folder on their drive they want to save to and the box either hangs indefinitely or in the teachers case at least 10 minutes
