Unusually high number of vacancies for this time of year?

Am I alone in thinking that in the past recent years it was unusual to see so many IT jobs advertised in the Winter months but this year there seem to be a shed load. Coincidence or what?

I think maybe it's a reflection more of me doing my year of posting jobs. I started on January 1 and haven't missed a weekday yet. The number has been pretty steady year round... some days are thinner than others... but there's a limit to how many I am going to transcribe on to the forum so at peaktimes, you don't see all the ones available.

 

I just have to decide if it's worth me carrying on in 2016... it was a challenge for this year.

Without you kindly posting those jobs, I would've never seen the advert for my job which I started last week and I'm thoroughly enjoying! I'm sure many other people are in the same position so thank you That being said, you certainly shouldn't have to do all that on your own nor even feel inclined to do it at all! it must be a pretty big burden constantly checking job sites for relevant positions and then formatting them into posts every day.

It's not a chore. I have rather enjoyed it. And it has been very interesting to see salary trends... I am at the stage now where I can guarantee which jobs will be readvertised. It's also interesting to see the huge range of job titles that cover the same job. When is a technician called an analyst or an engineer or an officer? It depends on the employer's preference not on the job spec.

 

My android tablet makes copy and paste easy peasy as you can copy multiple items from the page on to the clipboard in one go and then have a pasting session; much nicer than one thing at a time on iOS. It takes 2 or 3 minutes per job max. The only site that's a pig is eteach because I can't copy from it. I leave that until last in the hope the job is also advertised somewhere else and saves me the effort

 

I also get asked to post some jobs where edugeeks decide that they want to distance themselves from the advert ... usually because they don't want to blow their anonymity by revealing their school.

What you guys have to be aware of is that there are more jobs being advertised than I post. I tend to choose public sector and charity roles unless there's something particularly juicy. I also tend to steer towards classic tech roles with occasional dips into AV and Data Management... go to the same sites (guardian jobs, s1 jobs, kentjobs, ....) and you will find many more similar roles and promotion opportunities.

 

My new year's resolution was to try to do it for the year... and I have stuck to it. I may lapse on a few days next year

Many thanks for your hard work in the job postings, I certainly never expected to get two interviews last year (out of four jobs applied for, so pretty good going!) and currently have three applications on the go .

There's a twitter feed for jobs in our town (i think managed by the council). quite a few get posted there although I'm not sure my school uses it. your council may not automatically tweet it as well as pop it on their website.

On here plus local paper's online jobs websites... advertising in the actual paper version has limited effect in my opinion.

 

I will say that your post is advertising right at the bottom end of the salary range for a technician. Having posted many of these jobs myself, you may well struggle to attract a suitable applicant at that starting salary.

Thanks for this service @elsiegee40, I have stuck an application in a couple of times for jobs at a local uni, the last one of which got me an interview (thanks also in part to @witch's excellent CV help here too, another hero of the forum)

 

I would like to add that :- IT jobs | Permanent & contract IT careers | The UK IT Jobs Board at CWJobs.co.uk is worth looking at for decent "Non-School/Educational" IT jobs, getting a CV uploaded there has worked very well for me in generating leads to date in my search for a job, several larger firms tend to use specialised HR recruiters who scan there for their role advertisments as I have found.
