I saw this, I can only presume they think it's a snake possibly.

We'd react the same if someone slipped a convincing looking crocodile into a swimming pool! :)

Saw this and did lol, but I don't think I'd do it to my cat. She's an ENORMOUS, aged rescue cat who's confused enough by life, the universe and everything let alone rogue cucumbers roaming the house giving her PTSD.

The cats in my house are scared of my heater fan let alone something like this. They'd have furry little heart attacks if they had unexpected cucumber encounters!

Goldman explains that the cucumbers are triggering the cats’ natural startle responses, since they “would not normally see cucumbers on the floor.”

Where would a cat normally expect to see a cucumber? What else would a cat not normally see on the floor that would cause this reaction? Waitrose Essentials Quinoa? A copy of the Financial Times?

I accidentally did this to my cat, way before it was 'cool'... he was eating from his bowl and the shopping I'd put down on the floor fell over and the cucumber rolled out and towards him. was he bothered, was he hell. He went straight back to his bowl and carried on eating!

Just as a brief sidetrack, catnip does absolutely nothing to my cat. Anyone else got this?

Not tried catnip, but Whiskas treat or Dreamies cause my cats to become hyper-manic and very easy to tempt into moving crates/the vet/anything really.

Bought a bag of dried catnip for Nyx, absolutely no effect.

Dreamies he'll go berserk for though. I keep meaning to get some fresh catnip but, well, effort lol.

My cat will pester me no end when it is feeding time, after they get out of the door though they pull a face as to 'who the hell are you' and run off on their merry way!
