6Foot2 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Link: People Are Scaring Their Cats with Cucumbers. They Shouldn't What happens when you put a cucumber behind a cat? Some felines couldn't care less about the vegetable intrusion, but others leap high into the air when they see it. Videos of such encounters are going viral this week, as people try to see how their own pets respond. But that’s not good for the animals, experts warn...
Michael Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I saw this, I can only presume they think it's a snake possibly. We'd react the same if someone slipped a convincing looking crocodile into a swimming pool! 1
Miscbrah Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Saw this and did lol, but I don't think I'd do it to my cat. She's an ENORMOUS, aged rescue cat who's confused enough by life, the universe and everything let alone rogue cucumbers roaming the house giving her PTSD.
localzuk Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 The cats in my house are scared of my heater fan let alone something like this. They'd have furry little heart attacks if they had unexpected cucumber encounters!
denzal2k4 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 unexpected cucumber encounters! Quote of the day right there! 1
TechMonkey Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Goldman explains that the cucumbers are triggering the cats’ natural startle responses, since they “would not normally see cucumbers on the floor.” Where would a cat normally expect to see a cucumber? What else would a cat not normally see on the floor that would cause this reaction? Waitrose Essentials Quinoa? A copy of the Financial Times?
Oaktech Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I accidentally did this to my cat, way before it was 'cool'... he was eating from his bowl and the shopping I'd put down on the floor fell over and the cucumber rolled out and towards him. was he bothered, was he hell. He went straight back to his bowl and carried on eating!
Miscbrah Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Just as a brief sidetrack, catnip does absolutely nothing to my cat. Anyone else got this?
pleach85 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I've found the dried stuff a bit hit and miss but I planted some from seed this year and they loved it!
Duranis Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Just as a brief sidetrack, catnip does absolutely nothing to my cat. Anyone else got this? It doesn't have any effect on some cats.
3s-gtech Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Just as a brief sidetrack, catnip does absolutely nothing to my cat. Anyone else got this? Not tried catnip, but Whiskas treat or Dreamies cause my cats to become hyper-manic and very easy to tempt into moving crates/the vet/anything really.
localzuk Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 The 2 cats I live with are both stoners. So, yeah, it works on them. 3
Dos_Box Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 My cats love catnip. We don't half go through some pouches of cat food after as well for some reason
Garacesh Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Bought a bag of dried catnip for Nyx, absolutely no effect. Dreamies he'll go berserk for though. I keep meaning to get some fresh catnip but, well, effort lol.
mark100 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 More cats and cucumbers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc0mi0Ei1CQ
googlemad Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 My cat will pester me no end when it is feeding time, after they get out of the door though they pull a face as to 'who the hell are you' and run off on their merry way!
