DaveJ2717uk Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) This is currently only affecting two(now 4) classrooms but we have over 60 promethean 500 series boards and when the USB is connected to the PC, the monitor flashes constantly, this happens at windows start up once it displays the login screen. if you remove the USB you can login and the PC acts normally, once logged in, if you put the USB back in it behaves as it should, the board is interactive, pen work fine etc. But, as soon as you lock the PC or log off the monitor starts flashing again.... Upgraded the active driver in case that was the issue, wondered about a windows update causing it, but not seen anything related or that would cause this, going to update the display driver to see if that makes any difference, other than that I'm stuck.. As I say luckily only affecting two(4) so far.. StevieM Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I'm also having a flashing monitor issue on about 20 PCs in one room but, in our case, it's nothing to do with Promethean boards* as we don't have any. Ours don't even get as far as the logon screen. When booting up, it stays on the Please wait screen for a few minutes then turns into a disco light show. Booting to both Safe Mode and Last Known Good produces the same result. The PCs are Fujitsu Esprimos running Win 7 Pro 32-bit. I've checked a few that are still working and they successfully installed a load of updates yesterday. *Actually, we run some Boardworks software that uses Promethean software. I wonder...
sted Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 ditto 3 here all hp pro 3070 sff 1 just had a monitor two smart e70s im trying system restore on 1 now 1 im leaving alone to see if it fixes itself (i doubt it but you never know) and one is trying to go into safe mode but while flashing less is still flashing and no logon screen i have 0 promethian software

sted Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 it appears to be a windows update KB3097877 kill it with fire remove from wsus and id be wary about rebooting servers as it applies to them as well - - - Updated - - - What OS are you using @sted and @DaveJ2717uk? win 7x64 but the update is listed for 7/8.1/2012rs (thats all my wsus server downloads) but i suspect 08r2 is vulnerable as well 1
StevieM Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Gahhhh!!!!!! I set it as not approved in WSUS just as a class of children in another suite shutdown their PCs. They are all now installing 31 updates. :gulp: Oh, well. We'll see... Edit: Phew! They seem to have come through unscathed - for now. I'm going start another thread in a different forum, @sted, as I've just noticed this is a Promethean Direct Support forum and our issues have nothing to do with Promethean. RTay Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Our problem was that you could not log on to Windows (even in safe mode). Just got a black screen with a cursor. I ran this using a Windows 7 OS install disc (Shift+F10 to open Command Prompt): dism /image:X:\ /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB3097877~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 /scratchdir:X:\temp (Note: No space after 31bf3856ad364e35 and ~amd64) X is directory of Windows. Mine was on D for example. I will need to install the revised KB3097877 later if it has fixed the problem. May need to adjust the code for x86/32 bit machines. I had an issue with the 'temp' folder so just leaving it as X:\ worked ok. Edited November 12, 2015 by RTay 1
