Microsoft announced Xbox One backward compatibility at E3 2015 and is rolling out the function starting this year. 360 discs do not play natively but trigger a download of a compatible file, while downloadable titles appear automatically.

Cool :) I've got to say, I'm getting more and more tempted by the XB1, especially if it'll (eventually) be able to play most of the little ones 360 games

The only games I have from that list are the Gears of War games and South Park: Stick of Truth. Although I brought the latter over a year ago in the sales and still haven't taken the plastic off it yet, maybe now is the time!

Not all games will be compatible. You can't play anything that needed an accessory to run, I'm thinking Rock Band and Rocksmith in particular. The 360 support is only an emulator and is not able to access the USB ports, by that logic the 360 games may only be installable to the internal storage.

I notice there are a lot of retro games on that list all the way back to Missile Command and up to Sonic the Hedgehog.

Not exactly the raft of AAA games I was expecting!

Still, lets give them time, I'm not going to get rid of the Xbox 360 until I know I haven't wasted £££'s on games.

So Xbox arcade games you've bought on the 360 will just appear in your available game list once they are made backwards compatible?

Fallout 3 but not Skyrim? um..
I'm guessing that's because Fallout 4 is out and they want people playing 3 again to get back into Fallout and then buy the new one.

Just seems strange they didn't put the effort in to create the environment for Skyrim as well considering they both use the same variation of engine. Though there have been rumours of a remastered Skyrim.

From what I hear the emulation environment is so good that it's just a case of the game publisher saying ok make it backward compatible and Microsoft flip a switch to make it happen, absolute minimal code required.

So if it's not on the list Bethesda has a reason why and a remastered version would make sense as being that reason.

Dirt 3 is on the list so Im happy

Downloaded Dirt 3 over the weekend as had just renewed Xbox Live and it came up as a (free) 'Games for Gold' on my 360 dashboard. Very impressed! Worth the £20 for 12 months of Gold in itself!!

The copy of Fallout 4 on Xbox one includes a code for the backward-compatible version of Fallout 3 to download so possibly also more incentive for them to do that first over Skyrim

Red Dead Redemption.........

Isn't on the list... because the Xbone is basically a PC and making it run on that would be creating a PC port.

And we can't have that can we?

Wonder if there really is an RDR2 in the pipeline holding back the BC port
Rockstar have been dropping clues about it all over the place so it would make sense that they are holding back the backward compatible version to get people hooked again closer to RDR2 release
