Joanne Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I don't like the sound of this here 'Combat Zone' You don't actually see any 'dirt' as such when you reach full potential. Nothing like Witcher 3 anyways!!! . o O (OMG I loved that game... sploosh)
Duranis Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 You don't have to actually romance them to get the perks, just max their affinity. I have been a little disappointed with the vaults I have explored so far. Compared to the other fallout games they have been a little tame and not as immersive. Think I have done 5 so far (including 111), which might be all of them. I did find Covenant last night which was an interesting side quest. One of the few that have come up in this game that made me really think about which side to take and wish their had been a third option. Spoiler: I didn't agree with them torturing and killing both people and synths to perfect their SAFE test which didn't seem to work well anyway. I also didn't agree with them wanting to kill all synths. However all the people in the town had lost people to the institute and part of what they where trying to do is provide peace and safety to them. The game gives you the choice of let them live (and continue killing and torturing people) or killing them (which also means killing a bunch of people that are trying to protect themselves from an enemy that has already done them severe harm). Ideally as I have been working with the railroad I would have liked some kind of middle ground option were they could have worked with synths from the RR (without the torture) to perfect the SAFE test as this would have been of benefit to everyone, had more reliable results and would mean innocent people didn't have to die. I discussed this with my Mrs and she said "Jeez, its just a game you know!" I also did the Museum of Witchcraft last night. Fairly small area but the atmosphere of the place was spot on. It would be amazing if more of the dungeon areas were designed like this. I also wish I had gone at an earlier level because at this point I'm basically a walking tank which removed a bit of the tension from the situation.
Joanne Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 @Duranis [ I chose to go with the institute rather than the Brotherhood or the Railroad. I've ended up taking over the airport, bringing down the big airship and I also went into the Railroad place and slaughtered them all. I would have preffered to be a lone ranger and not get involved in any of it! Although I kinda want to start a new save and go with the other options to see what happens. The institute story was predictable and disappointing if I'm honest ] I was just like... uhhh... whatevs I'll just choose this I guess.
Garacesh Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I didn't have too much of an issue with choosing what to do at Covenant. I let the scientist live, because I can understand why they wanted the test, but I freed the possible-synth-possibly-not lady. Maybe my judgement was clouded by knowing what the institute are capable of, re: A3-21 in Fallout 3, but I couldn't condemn her to death when I knew it was a capable for synths to be, for all intents and purposes, entirely human. Presumably (in a world of actual humans not governed by game coding..) the experiments would be continued, but I'd have rescued her, and hopefully given them something to think about. Now, the kind of sitting down and going 'Hm....' you're describing.. I had that with the Geth in Mass Effect.. Museum of Witchcraft was fantastic
Duranis Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 OT but I really must make an effort and play through the mass effect games at some point. I have started the first one about 10 times but after about 5 hours of pretty much nothing but dialog choices I get bored. I'm all for good story telling in a game and being able to interact with the game world but it just seemed a bit much at places and the pacing seemed really slow. Everyone raves about it though so maybe I just haven't got far enough into it to get to the interesting bits.
pcstru Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I've yet to tell my mother that this year I have to spend Christmas with Nick, Piper and because I haven't seen him for a long time, Shaun. (Entirely justified the cost of purchase in one.)
Garacesh Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Finally followed the freedom trail (completely by accident.. Was looking for Nick, but then stumbled across what I was actually supposed to do) and I've replaced Dogmeat with Cait.. I do love an Irish accent lol.
CHR1S Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Struggling to get into it if I'm honest. Not sure why either. Its probably more to do with the fact I cant read the text on the pipboy etc on my TV from the sofa (yes I should wear my glasses) but its not clicking. And that bloody dog is annoying me!
Duranis Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 You can try changing the colour of the pipboy in the menu which might make it easier to read (I have to shift it to a lighter colour as I struggled with the default green colour as well). Also you can dismiss dogmeat and go it alone. Maybe its just not your type of game though? 1

I have played every FO (barring 3) and enjoyed them, I don't have the same time to play as I used to so I dip in for an hour here and there. I will see if it clicks over the next week or so.
Garacesh Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 In all fairness, whilst the post-apocalypse setting is spot on, Fallout 4 is more Elder-Scrollsy than it is Fallouty in terms of its gameplay.
Joanne Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'm onto doing settlement stuff at the moment. I have a super mutant following me about as a companion. He doesn't like me much though... he dislikes everytime I put on my power armor!!
Garacesh Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Yep, Strong doesn't like anything that makes a human stronger. I've shipped him off to a different settlement to stop his whining when I move stuff around. I've got about 7 settlements now, but the only ones I've bothered with is the Drive-In and Sanctuary.
Joanne Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I've got 24 Just going around them all and making sure everything is OK. I've run out of oil for the sentry guns, so going to go on a scavenge tonight
Ghostgame Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Anyone find the USS Constitution? Basically a wooden ship with rocket engines attached, crewed by robots. If you have not found it yet, really recommend it.

I saw it, and made a mental note to check it out, but haven't done yet.
Tesla Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) It's a very good side quest. Although one of my companions got stuck there for a while in a glitch...... oh and yes it is near there garacesh Edited January 6, 2016 by Tesla

Tesla Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (My) Sanctuary : People 22, Food 40, Water 690 Tells it's own story. You've flooded it? You monster!!
Garacesh Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Speaking of settlements, I ended up accidentally going fast travelling back to Covenant and since they didn't like me there, they attacked me. So I killed them. And used the workshop. And now the town is mine. Not much room to build things, but it's fully furnished already so I just made some water pumps, a recruitment beacon and some defences. Annoyingly half the junk is still 'Steal' though >.< Currently I'm doing the side quests for Cabot.
Tesla Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I havent played Fallout much lately, pretty much at the point where i have to make a choice to advance the story. and I don't know who i want to join out of the four factions yet.
Garacesh Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 and -snip- yet. I'd consider joining The Brotherhood of Steel because whilst I agree with their ideal of 'find, preserve and protect old tech', I find myself disagreeing with their views on synths. Whilst a lot of synths, especially the Gen I and Gen II synths are killing machines, I subscribe to the Railroad's way of thinking about Gen III synths. I mean, I've done CVRIE's companion quest so I don't really get to decide to kill all synths, no? So then there's Ah yes. The Institute, although I don't know too much about them yet as I haven't infiltrated their base under the CIT ruins yet. I'm almost there, but not just yet. I suspect there will be some decent dialogue about why they do what they do and what their purpose is, but I don't picture myself agreeing with them. I think in all honesty I'm going to have to go with The Railroad. I've done a good few missions for them so far and I do have to agree with them about protecting synths that are essentially human. Heck, even back in Fallout 3 I always helped out A2-31, but to be fair he did have a sweet plasma rifle.. No idea who the fourth faction is, though? Minutemen?
cherd84 Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) Annoyingly half the junk is still 'Steal' though >.< If you've taken over the town, you can scrap the junk that you don't own by going in build mode without any repercussions. Ive just about had a go with all the companions now. Maxed out affinity with Cait, Codsworth & Piper and started flirting with Paladin Danse which can be quite funny being a male character. On Paladin Danse, anyone else think he sounds/looks a bit like George Clooney? Also, started setting up supply lines between settlements which makes it a bit easier to build them up without having to deposit scrap in each individual workshop. Joanne Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 This is what I did and here are my thoughts: I joined the institute. They are all about killing too. Their main aim to to cleanse the earth and make way for superior human race. I think that all the factions are about da killing. Even the Minute Men! You go about killing raiders and gunner. Nuff said. KILLING SPREEEEEE!

Cait is awesome, and was the first person to replace Dogmeat. I've done her and CVRIE now, and I'm not sure who to take with me next for the sweet sweet perks. Maybe I'll go pay off McCreedy and drag him out. That 20% to headshot perk sounds pretty useful, but I just don't like him. I think I'll go with Nick. Nick's cool.
