I have always found the main quest/story in beth' games to be pretty boring to be honest (fallout/elderscrolls). Their appeal to me has always been the amazing worlds they put together and let you explore.

I've found this Fallout to be a bit lacking in dialogue options. At some points in the story it feels too linear and I can only talk to certain people and others have to be left in the dark about story-defining moments (trying to avoid spoilers haha)

That said some of the hidden side quests are really good, especially where they're a bit on the creepy side - Fallout has a knack of doing those well.

I completely agree. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were less... Urgent. Fallout 3 was "Yo, you've been kicked out into the wasteland. You have no idea what's going on. GL;HF.", and New Vegas was "Something happened, you ate a few bullets, and you're in possession of a platinum casino chip. You might wanna find out what that's all about.", which set the scene to take character progression slowly, explore the wastes, find out what's what. Fallout 4 immediately throws you into "YOUR SON HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED. GO RESCUE HIM!" and whilst Fallout 3 and New Vegas have much more on the line by the end of the games (purifying the wastes, taking over New Vegas/the Mojave desert), Fallout 4 seems to stop short there. Sure there's something (without going into too many spoilers) involving this creepy, enigmatic organisation the Institute, and their synths. There's the Railroad and the Minutemen but they feel kinda inconsequential. It's nice to see the Brotherhood of Steel get fleshed out more, but I haven't been down their quest lines yet so I can't comment too much there. But it all feels like the-means-to-an-end to me. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you feel like you get swept up in events that were already going on around you. Fallout 4, nothing seems to happen until you show up. You're the catalyst that kicks everything off, rather than someone that gets caught in the flood. The world just... Doesn't feel real.

snippity snip

Completely agree.

I've tried to enjoy my second playthrough more by focusing on the factions with the help of mods, it feels a lot nicer when you see a lot more patrols of minutemen/BoS etc and various ambient battles taking place. F4 (when you add a few mods, can't wait for the creation kit) is probably more enjoyable without the story line at all.

Exactly!

I offer up my comparison game, Red Dead Redemption and there is no way FO4 holds up.

I find myself just mashing the buttons during a chat scene now as the result always seems to be the same whatever I press, I might get a few more caps or then again I might not.

It doesn't help the immersion when it stutters like mad on Xbox One!

Honestly the one issue I had with this game is that it doesn't scale the npc levels.

There is NPC scaling, but you don't normal notice it till lvl60+ and depending on what difficulties you have set.

Finished all my Railroad side quests and whatnot, carrying on with the main story now for a while.

Decided to build myself a nice house, all disco balls and strobe lights. The building process is a right PITA!!

Fairly certain I'm at 'decision point' now as I have (Optional) Get help from Railroad/Minutemen/Brotherhood, But I think I've done most of the quests for the factions.

So far I have: [Obvious spoilers]

  • Taken the Castle back for the Minutemen. (Not sure if I'm 'done' with them, but it's back to 'go help random settlement' repeatables now, so I think so?)
  • Cleared out the Super Mutants near the Prydwen. (Not sure if I'm 'done' yet, but I've been ordered to go decode the Corsair chip. Don't seem to be getting any more quests.)
  • Rescued some doodz for the Railroad (I'm not sure if I'm 'done' with them, yet, but I only have cache quests from PAM now.)
  • Got CVRIE ported over to her new robot body.
  • Collected all the Holotapes and dealt with Eddie Winter for Nick.

So besides random exploring or companion stuff, I'm not sure what else to do now before taking the final step and cutting out 2 of the factions. Trekking around with Danse for now just to kill time.

Anyone find the USS Constitution?

Basically a wooden ship with rocket engines attached, crewed by robots.

If you have not found it yet, really recommend it.

Bwahahahahahah!

Just finished that quest path. LOOOL.

I concur with @Ghostgame, definitely recommend it!

I've started my second playthough now. Loaded an earlier save which put me back to level 15! It's weird not being able to one shot kill stuff!!! Going along with the brotherhood and railroad. I tried broadcasting my game last night. Anyone ever done that?

Really? There must be epic lag? I was using YouTube and had my mic hooked up. I had no viewers!! :p

Then you should post when you're streaming :p

I did set up a gaming channel, but the problem is since I'm playing DOTA mostly there isn't anything to put on it. I don't wanna be streaming personality, I wanted to do highlight-reel type stuff (see: SovietWomble) but since I don't play too many games.. Eh. Well, it is what it is.. Even if it was £40 down the drain to have a logo designed xD

I stream on Twitch (infrequently now), it seems easier to get people to watch on there than on other platforms.. With YouTube for example, it's so unlikely people will find the stream unless they're already subscribed.

SovietWomble is hilarious, I played Rust with him for a bit by chance.

Xbox one can stream to Win10, its pretty decent for when I cant have the main TV. On wireless I get the occasional stutter but its worth it.

Ah I meant broadcast to THE WORLD!

I'll sign up to twitch tonight instead then. If I get to play. Think I will... Mr Pete is going to the driving range.

Please don't be a boobie streamer. You're a girl that actually plays video games, not a 'gamer gurl'.. Have some integrity Joanne D:

So im still playing this....and yes, I am finally getting into it more.

Popped to the glowing sea last night, nice place! Think I was supposed to come here at a lower level however, the deathclaw went down in two shots. Promptly got my ass handed to me by an Ledgenday Assaultron invader who one shotted me in full E modded brotherhood power armor and ballistic modded undergarments. Nice balance to the game there.

Getting fed up with vendors never having enough caps when I sell up, are there places where they carry more than 300 each?

Posted

The vendor cap limit is annoying. There is a perk you can take that increases how many caps they have though. Also if you are selling massive amounts of stuff to them and they don't have the caps buy ammo instead. It doesn't weight anything and you can trade it back later for other things you might want.

Assaultrons are probably the hardest enemy in the game. That laser blast is pretty much designed to be a 1 shot kill no matter what armor you have on.

Posted

You have to beat assaultrons with things. Grognaks axe is particularly effective.

Just watching some fallout videos on teh youtubes and I want to play now! I know what I'll be doing next week!
