Dos_Box Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Laptops with touch screens. After swapping between my Surface 3 and a Dell XPS I find it inconvenient I can't 'do stuff' with the screen!

A very nice device only marred by having to splash out on a KB and pen seperately. Apart from that, it's a delight to use and does everything I need including full fat office without being slow.
ZeroHour Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Yeah I dont see much of a need on my desktop but on any portable device its really useful. The surface 3 is really nice when I played with @Dos_Box's one but he would be more in the know. The new surface is being launched next week so hold off for that announcement and you may get a steal on the 3 if they price drop.

I always find myself frustrated by trying to use touch screen devices, particularly windows ones and I always feel palpable relief when I go back to touchpads or mice, like touch screens actually stress me out a bit. I have a bluetooth mouse for my phone for goodness sake!
Garacesh Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I'm not quite in the boat of having a bluetooth mouse for my phone, but I'm certainly in the camp of "I don't want my laptop to have a touchscreen." Though, to be fair, I don't want my laptop to have a trackpad either, bloody awful things Tablets and phones are touch-devices, and whilst it's a little infuriating when things don't quite work expected (accidental multi-press, fat fingers not being precise enough, etc) it would be incredibly cumbersome and awkward to carry a mouse around with me all the time. Laptops, to me, are portable, sure, but they're not on-the-go devices like a tablet or a phone is. Therefore, when I'm using a laptop, high chance is I'm sat at a desk or some form of table, in which case, give me a mouse.

I'm surprised at how often I use it. It's certainly not my main way of interacting with the laptop, but I do find myself touching the screen more often than I expected.

Yeah, I don't actually carry the mouse around with me, my fingers are dexterous enough to send and receive texts and emails and navigate facebook! I do have one on my desk and one at home, mainly so I can use the o365 admin app, RDP client and splashtop on my phone with ease.

That's about all I use my phone for, light web browsing (reddit, facebook mostly) text messages (well, WhatsApp/Kik/Etc, barely ever actual SMS).. That, plus a few odd games (Fallout Shelter, AAAAAAAaAAaaAAaaAAaAAAAAaaaa, Plague, mostly).. It's a 5.5" screen, so my fingers are fine for it. I do have RDP on my phone which is set up to work on my PC but I rarely ever use it truth be told.. I would certainly get a bluetooth mouse if I used it frequently enough though.

Compared with the pro 3s - of which about a third have had an issue that needed sending off the tablet to fix. Edited October 1, 2015 by Sagima

It's not yet confirmed that they'll be releasing a new Surface yet. It's all just rumours. They thought it would be released around July time but that never happened...

Still it only says is "expected" it's not definite but that looks more promising. Hopefully they'll use quality hardware and components this time rather than make their tablets look the part but not perform the way they look. The MARVELL wifi card is where I'd start personally, get rid of that and use an Intel Pro wifi chip.
