Problems registering Domain on Office 365

Good morning,

 

I am trying to setup Office 365 for testing purposes for Senior Management. I have registered our College and would like to register our domain. The instructions state that we need to add a DNS record with the following values. However within DNS Manager when you add a new TXT record it requests an IP Address. Unfortunately without an IP Address I cannot get any further. Can anyone please advise what I am doing wrong?

 

TXT name TXT value TTL

@ MS=ms13485949 3600

In office 365 they have guides of how to do the txt for most of the registrars if you've missed it in the instructions https://support.office.com/client/this-page-listing-the-registrars-a46bec33-2c78-4f45-a96c-b64b2a5bae22

At the first stage, you only need to create a TXT record. You don't need to modify any DNS entries at this point.

In DNS Manager, you've chosen Create "Other New Records" and chosen TXT then clicked "Create Record"?

 

You put your "@ MS=ms13485949 3600" bit into the Text field, and leave the Record Name box empty.

 

Just to check, you're putting this into an existing Forward Lookup Zone?

I'm not sure to be honest. Normally creation of a TXT record is done at your domain registrar, or whoever manages your .sch.uk domain for example.

 

It's normal to have a name server(s) within your local domain, but then your domain registrar will also have its own name servers for your school domain. I apologise if this sounds obvious, but I've never created a TXT record for O365 on a 2008 R2 server.
