Creating A Contact in AD/Exchange

I am trying to set up a contact in Active Directory with the e-mail address 'enquiries@doman', but this needs to forward all mail to the school secretary.

 

How would be the best way to set this up? I have created the contact, but unlike standard user accounts it doesn't have a forwarding address option (under delivery options usually)

 

Any suggestions appreciated...

I've never actually used exchange but I'd imagine you'd want to create an alias rather than an actual account

You could just assign the email address to the secretary and rule out Forwarding entirely.

 

In AD

Right click the user you want to have the address

Properties

Email Addresses

New

SMTP Address

Type it in.

 

If you really do want to have a new User Account so anyone who needs to can access it then create a new User called what you want, then in AD on the Exchange General tab there is a section to forward the mail to your secretary.

Duh! Yes of course that would work - I just hadn't thought of going things that way.

Well it depends you see, we have an Office Email user account because more than one person needs to check it. [email protected]

Funny enough I was looking at this the other day as I was asked to make the [email protected] address deliver to more than 1 recipient.

 

For one user as mentioned above just add a 2nd email address through Exchange properties. If you want more than 1 user to view you'ev got a few choices...

 

- distribution list sending multiple copies of the email out (messy)

- Public Folder with distribution list

- "Promotional Mailbox" with shared access

 

I went for the last one, set up a new user \ mailbox then grant our Reception group access to it through Mailbox Rights. Also in Security I gave that group Send As permissions so replies go back from the enquiries email.

 

Then you just hop onto Outlook and open the additional mailbox for the users who need access to it:cool:
