We have 3 leased Sharp Copiers in the school that act as the only printers available to the computers and laptops, as you can imagine they get used a lot and the toner usage is huge, we get sent a new toner automatically every time a cartridge reaches a 25% remaining threshold (seems like one arrives every day), that's all well and good but we are getting a huge build up of empty toner cartridges and the only place I've found that will take them is eReco but they want £35 for every box collected!

Does anyone know of a company that will collect Sharp toners for a reasonable amount or even better for free?

I really don't want them going to landfill and the business manager scowls at me every time I mention paying to get rid of them.

Surely I can't be the only one in this situation.

Most places will now charge to get rid, speak to your supplier as they maybe able to offer a scheme.

By the sounds of it they are not acknowledging the alert and it pings to them everyday.

As regards to recycling, they are all recyclable and should be able to put in any of the plastic recycling i.e. at the local tip or boxes at home as such in theory. See what scheme your LA has for recycling plastics.

This is the Sharp recommended company IT Equipment Recycling, Secure Data Destruction and Recycling | London, UK.

£34.50 + VAT for a pickup, though not sure if that is a flat fee however many boxes you have or per box. Quite expensive in my mind but I guess for the warm fuzzy enviro-feeling it is worth it.

Have to say Oki, who we used to have, did a free pickup. Gave big red sacks we would fill and then just arrange a pickup.

I never noticed before but the cartridges have a recycling symbol on them so I've chanced it and thrown a few in our big recycling bins, I'll await a letter from the council giving us a slap on the wrists.

I'm having a hard time finding somebody to take the 45 empty toners sitting in my office.... Just given these guys a try and it looks promising: Free Ink and Toner Cartridge Recycling - OfficeXpress

Looks like I'll need to break them down into batches of 15 but they seem to be one of a rare few companies willing to take empty compatibles. Will let you know how it goes...

That's who I use. I have an empty box in the server room, drop used toners in there and when full, give them a call and the collect it

Yep, they've come up trumps for me too. Were even happy to send me a few 'spare' collection boxes. The only issue is they don't take back toner bottles (used for MFDs etc).

It turns out Ricoh will take back empty toner bottles free of charge too, even if you're not a direct customer of Ricoh. They've got to be original Ricoh toner bottles though. Link: https://www.ricoh-return.com/en
