newpersn Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I'm due an upgrade with EE soon. My note 3 is starting to play up since it firmware upgrade. I use spotify alot with offline play lists and taking photos and videos. I'm torn with an iPhone 6 64 gb or a note 4 with my 64 gb mirco sd card. Or even a Google Nexus 6 What would you go for?
DalekSec Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I went with the Samsung s6 edge and haven't regretted it one bit!, I know doesn't have replaceable battery or micro sd slot but then again everything I save is now on a cloud! and the battery life is fantastic. plus CURVED SCREEN!

DalekSec Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 The iPhone 6 plus is way to big imo, my friend has it and I laughed when I saw the size of it! Its closer to a tablet than a phone. The s6 edge is just the right size not too big not too small. My old phone had 100gb storage with the micro sd, had for 2 years had no need for the extra storage and did fine with the 32gb built in plus this s6 edge I have does have 64gb of space
ICTDirect_Dave Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I wouldn't say way too big. I thought it would be, but at 5.5" it's only 0.4" bigger than the S6 dge and 0.3" smaller than the Note. It sits in that sweet spot for me, it's comfortable in my hand and the sxtra real estate on screen is a definite bonus

Turns out however that the increased battery life and slightly bigger screen mean that I'm a happy chap. I've hardly used my iPad since.

There has already been a leaked image of the Note 5 online and according to rumors it'll be announced sometime next month. The iPhone is well an iPhone, depending on what you use your phone for depends on whether or not you could fit in it's locked eco system and lack of accessibility, if you want simple and easy go with iOS but if you want freedom and customability go with Android. That is down to you, personally I wouldn't bother with iOS. Now I own the Nexus 6 and though I had some issues when I first bought it (The battery was bulging had to take it back to shop) I found that the replacement model I now have has been brilliant, so fast it's unrealistic, the amount of support from places like XDA and all the customizable ROM's and apps you can install are never ending and the big screen and clarity are beautiful when watching videos or playing games oh and the feel in the hand is great, feels like a real high premium device. Front facing powerful speakers also make it a pleasure to use, these are hard to find on phones nowadays. Though it has it's pitfalls, since buying a tablet I do now think it's too big I don't need a screen this size now I have a tablet although before I had a tablet I thought it was a great size as it compromised between the two in one device. The camera could be a lot better, it's no question when looking at the S6's photo's compared to the Nexus 6 and lastly is the stock android experience, now this may come as a surprise to most of you but my god it get's on my nerves, no option to be able to boot into recovery, no way to edit individual settings on different sounds like notifications and media and the amount of features they've left out due to my Nexus 6 being shipped with a LED notification light but no way to use it in the stock Rom it also has Double tap to wake support but no way again to enable it. Cyanogenmod 12.1 fixed all this for me though. My POV is to go with the S6 or S6 Edge, just the right size, screams premium, best screen, best camera and the edge effect gives it the wow factor (more of a novelty than actually being useful imo) but it is cool. But keep in mind can you live with 32GB storage with no expandable memory and can you live with the lack of ROM's and customization due to the Exynos processor? All down to your choice but hope this covers it for you. It'd be handy to know exactly how you use your phone and what you want to do with it first so I'm shooting in the dark a bit here. EDIT: If that's all you use your phone for in reality I'd flash a custom ROM on it to bring it some new life and keep using it for the next 3 years. Edited July 30, 2015 by abillybob

Admitted i don't have an iPhone 6. But my iPhone 5 is a tank of a phone. The beta of iOS 9 runs really well on it. Some iOS 9 Beta 4 Screenshots if anyone interesting Siri doesn't understand EDUgeek for me. Maybe its my Essex Accent.
Blue_Cookeh Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) I'm not trying to be an Apple fanboy, but just bear in mind Android seems to suffer from a horrendous "slow down" problem over the span of a couple of years (speaking from a lot of personal experience!) even if you install stock Android ROMs etc. Personally I just moved from an S4 to an iPhone 6 and haven't looked back If you do go down that route just remember the iPhone 6s is coming in September. It'll be hard to get hold of for a few months and it'll only be a minor spec bump (always is in the S releases) though. Sure, I miss being able to tinker with my phone and install custom ROMs but on the other hand my camera is awesome and I've had ZERO app crashes since I've owned the thing! I went with Virgin Media, £5 a month along with my Virgin subscription (TV etc). I was able to save my self another £35 a month just by not upgrading to a phone which in all honesty I don't need to upgrade.

VM have not equipment in in the area. I want to drop my contract down by by a few ££ a month. May wait till the next generation (6s, note 5 ) as that should push the prices down.

I agree and I'm not trying to be an android fanboy either but I do want to point out that after a few years iPhones have the same slow down problem with new updates to iOS. Your 5 might be ok for now but my girlfriends 4s is running like a dog on iOS 8.4. As I say it's down to personal preference! Difference is with android when something runs slow a simple TWRP wipe and a reload of a new clean ROM such as Cyanogenmod will get you a few years more out of it.
Norphy Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 [ATTACH=CONFIG]31789[/ATTACH] This The only possible thing there that anyone sensible should maybe care about is the amount of RAM the phone has. 1GB is a little low but considering how much Apple optimize iOS for low RAM running, it's not so much of an issue. The rest however... Five megapixel selfie cam? Who cares? As for the main camera, the difference between 8 and 16 megapixels on a camera sensor the size of a phone camera sensor is minimal. Instead it's the software and the image stabilization stuff that's important and from what I hear the two are pretty similar in that regard. And as for the resolution of the screen, well, once you get past 350/400dpi on a screen you are waaaaay past the point of diminishing returns unless the thing is literally strapped to your face. The only thing having QHD on a phone does for you is increase the amount of CPU/GPU power it takes to drive the screen and therefore reducing your battery life. IMO. 1

My Samsung Galaxy S2, fine for 12 months then started locking up, freezing, getting red hot, not charging, paid to end contract early and got an iPhone 5. (Then an iPhone 6) My Ex, Samsung Galaxy S2, fine for a few months then same issues, locking up freezing, getting hot, poor battery, pee'd off with it, got an iPhone 5, then an iPhone 6 2 years later My Ex's mum, Samsung Galaxy S2, paid to end contract early because had the same issues, swore at the phone daily, now on an iPhone 4S still happy 2 years on. One of my assistants, Samasung Galaxy S2, battery life went bad, phone would lock up , freeze, got pee'd off, on an iPhone 5S and still happy. One friend, Galaxy Note 3, came round last week said he's ready to throw the fu*kin phone up the wall, i want an iPhone 6 NOW, phones locking up freezing. My Ex's sister had to use a Galaxy S3 for a month as she dropped her iPhone 5C screen and cracked it. All she did was complain all the time about how crap the Samsung Galaxy S3 is and how it has a mind of its own and keeps doing things she did not ask it to do. I could go on as i have many other friends who have experienced the same, but I'm convinced Samsung sales are going down bank fast because their phones are basically utter crap and people are starting to realise it. Also if you go iPhone 6 if it develops a fault, you can just walk into an Apple store and walk out with a working phone. Making you a happy customer. Plus you generally get iOS updates for a quite a long time, Samsung seem to drop the phones OS support quickly, the iPhone 4S is getting iOS 9 this year which is good concerning their has been the iPhone 5,5S,5C,6 and by that point 6S since then. Then on top of that when you come to sell it , it should hold its value better than other phones on the market, just this week the head of maths upgraded to the iPhone 6 and they gave him £175 for his iPhone 5S, not bad for a 2 year old phone, whats that 40% of its original value? 1

Get out.... I just copied everything off my phone and sd card. Just factory restored my phone and it seems ok now. My Mrs phone camera is now dead so gonna take a trip to carphone warehouse and see what they can do. Also wanna drop my contract price a month.
