My ideal solution would be they all feed into one computer but different content is displayed on each screen. For instance i want a screen for the entrance of the school displaying certain content but want different content for PE's screen. I have been looking at RISE Digital Signage but not sure if it is possible with there system. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks

Thanks Check out Sedao, we bought it through Saville AV but I think they deal direct too. Should do everything your looking for.

Install isn't hard if you have installed anything LAMP based before

Install isn't hard if you have installed anything LAMP based before Xibo isnt an option unfortunately i tried it last year and it drove me mad as i could never get the design to how i wanted and never really seemed to do what i wanted it to do.

jdoyle Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Used Omnivex at last school. Too expensive and a bit of a pain to use. Had Planet eStream already on site for internal video streaming and TV Capture. This system now has a Digital Signage feature and I started using that instead of the Omnivex system before leaving for pastures new. Quite liked it.
synaesthesia Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I think it's worth spending time with Xibo. By the time you've got your head round it you will have a cheaper and better option. It will only ever look as good as you can make it and we've seen some great examples over the years!
VeryPC_Anthony_L Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Digital signage - my current project. Over the last few months i have been looking into and testing various digital signage systems. There are so many options and personally this can be an issue as it can get to confusing. The first thing that ideally needs to be done is to work out what you want it to do, powerpoint, livestream, rss feed, photos, text, videos.... Most systems will all rss feed, photos, text, videos, anything more advanced is available but not as common. With more and more people using cloud based services there are various firms who do cloud based solutions. Some of these stream content and others will send the download the content onto the player. if anyone is interested in having a signage solution. I am more than happy to discuss the solutions that VeryPC can offer..
rj_mayer Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 We use our own solution, which at the signage end is a Rasberry Pi, connected over HDMI to whatever screen you can source - ours range from 24" to 55", depending on the space. They boot automatically into the standard Raspbian O/S and open Midori to a preconfigured webpage, hosted locally. The several screens across the site display similar layouts, depending on size and aspect etc. Feeds include a Twitter account, choice of RSS, our current public WIFI PIN, Caterer's menu, Calendar feed (from Exchange EWS) and photo gallery (NTFS-secured photo repository share). Each screen has its own personality (as well as the choice of layout), so all of the above are configurable in a DB to reflect the needs of the screen's position. A basic management interface allows remote a send/receive of configuration over SSH and VNC for viewing the screen's display live. The server side runs IIS and serves PHP pages, with MySQL hosting much of the cached RSS/Twitter/Exchange data and allows easy manipulation of display aspects to suit local need. AJAX ensures content is drawn regularly and rotated at different rates per section, depending on need. Aside from server infrastructure (assumed to be existing) and the screens themselves, each deployment costs us around £50, for the PI, box and various leads. We consider it a pretty good value system that delivers relevant and current content to the college community, with devolved administration to areas, yet minimal overhead on existing content management, assuming the various sources are already being used. Just thought I'd share our approach.

Took us all of an hour to set up a server and our first client and get content on it. We're using Minix boxes (Windows or Android, both have a client) to display content from it.
