Hi All,

having an issue with an iPad I'm hoping someone has a solution for.

The device says 145mb of storage remaining, the breakdown says 10GB of the overall storage is used by Camera and Photos... Originally it said there was 0mb remaining, we've deleted all but 5 photos and freed up the 145mb... There's no way the photos are 2GB each - any ideas?

Cheers

Is it on iOS 8? Look in the "recently deleted" folder and remove them from there as well.

ive found that sometimes files don't show in there even though the ipad I was on said 8gb of photos I had to roll back the clock a few years then they appeared in recently deleted

Thanks guys, but already checked the recently deleted and tried the date trick (apparently September 2014 is the magic date?) to no avail.

don't suppose you can see more by plugging it into a pc/mac and browsing the drive?

Nope - just the 5 or so pictures I'm not supposed to delete... Shows as been 12GB on the PC and having 145mb free too.

Is there any software that lets you browse the whole device's storage is anyone aware? I have come across some in the past, I just can't seem to recall it's name or find it.

Do you have the BBC News app installed? I recently ran into an issue where it had consumed 2.5GB of storage on it's own.

Nope :(

you can find a lot more files if you boot up in linux.

Thanks I'll give this a go now

Do you have Dropbox or any other online photo storage accounts on the device? A colleagues iPhone was counting his online storage towards his phone storage, removed and re added account and it sorted itself out.

Nothing that I can see :/

No online storage setup - not even icloud...

Just managed to free up a further 240mb by disabling "Keep Normal Photo" in Photos & Camera under the settings... The space has then dropped by a further 100mb and I haven't even done anything to the device! This is why I don't like apple :p

I'll speak to the user, I wonder if a factory reset might be worth a try?

edit: It's just dropped a further 100mb in two increments... dropping from 280 to 120 to 180...

further edit: the space is plummeting down, and I'm not even doing anything. I've even enabled airplane mode so I know nothing is downloading - currently at 65.9mb

Do you have any apps installed which would record their own video files? I can't remember which one it is but at one of my schools they have an app which stores them in its own place - not the standard camera roll

The only apps installed are OWA, Word, Skype, Calculator, ITunes U, Recorder Plus and Youtube... Other than the standard apps that come on the device of course. Weirdly, the iOS settings show 68.8 mb at the moment (2mb more than the last time I looked), but when I just launched Recorder to make sure nothing was in there, it reported 271mb remaining.

Somethine really strange appears to be happening...

I've uninstalled the apps one-by-one, and it seems it might have been word.

Since uninstalling Word (which just happened to be the app I save until last), the data remaining is creeping back up and is currently at just under 1GB... Seems odd, but we're gonna leave it and see if that resolves it (always good to know these things).

Just back it up, stick it in safe mode and start from scratch.

That's the next port of call!

It's saved me a few times!

Although I did have a similar thing happen the other day, needed to install an iOS update, deleted 100+ pictures, cleared up a couple of hundred MB and for some reason, four one minute videos were taking up around 2GB of space.
