GBMicros Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hi All, hopefully someone has had the same issue and knows how to fix. I have supplied over 20 Lenovo Think Pad E555 laptops with Windows 7 pre-installed on them. The issue I am having is the cursor jumps around the screen erratically. I have Googled it and found that other Lenovo devices have a similar issue but can't find a answer to mine. I can use the track point when it is doing this but as soon as you take your finger of it starts jumping again. disable the track and re-enabling it then stops the track pad from working until a restart. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried updating the driver. Totally baffled. Any suggestions would be great. Specs are: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E555 20DH - 15.6" - A series A8-7100 - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / 8.1 Pro 64-bit - 4 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD. Thanks.

NB9457 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Simple one, but is it clean? I've had this a lot with laptops, trackpad gets greasy and dirty and a bit of alcohol based cleaner does the trick.

I even took a new imaged one to replace one that was playing up, I got ten minutes down the road and the school called me to say it was already doing the same thing. The second laptop was new out the box. Thanks.

GBMicros Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Not thought of BIOS so I'll give it a try. This is a problem with about 10 of the 20 supplied. Spoke to Lenovo this morning for half an hour and in the end they said send it back for a reimage. Not sure that it will make any difference though. I thought from Googleing it and it being a issue with how many I have supplied this may be a known issue, but I don't think it is now. Thanks
m25man Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Not being funny but we sell a lot of Lenovo's and have done so for years and I've never heard or seen of this issue myself and the only difference is we don't do AMD... Call me prejudiced but after years of front line support with a systems builder and no end of quirky problems with AMD based devices I decided never again and that has carried through to now and if it hasn't got Intel inside I don't want to sell it. Yeah, yeah, yeah... plenty of people will argue that they are great but when we worked for a pre Buncefield system builder the AMD's were always the highest returns with endless compatibility issues. Not being funny but this could be down to any of the peripheral drivers or the bloatware Lenovo insist on installing. I would start by uninstalling some of the junk in case that helps. We have a batch file one of our chaps wrote called Lenovo Cleanup... It has a great wait line that pops up whilst working that says "Removing Junk and other Lenovo Crap" The machines are significantly quicker after cleaning them.
GBMicros Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Thanks m25man, the thought had crossed my mind just to do an install with a normal Windows 7 disc and then install just the drivers, to see if it had the same effect. I take your point about Intel/AMD and if the school had the budget I would stick with Intel. Could you send me the batch file or would I have to purchase it from you? Thanks

I know I spotted a issues like this on a few products back in the early life-cycle of product testing when I was working back at the RM coalface (god bless her and all who sailed in her). Synaptics were the worse culprits iirc. In fact - I've just googled it and found this..... Mouse Cursor Behaves Erratically - Lenovo Support (US) - Not exactly the same hardware - but sounds suspiciously similar to the issues you are experiencing !! Edited July 7, 2015 by dwbrown

3s-gtech Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Stuff Ten years is an awfully long time in IT terms to completely dismiss a manufacturer. We've always made an effort to choose the best product for the job/budget/requirements. AMD have won that many times. We're a majority Intel shop, but I have no more issues percentage wise from AMD stuff, and compatibility issues went out with the K6. This won't be an AMD fault, but it could still be a manufacturing defect, most likely with the trackpad. The Thinkpad Edge series have some known issues with this, Intel ones included. I have used both Intel and AMD on many occasions and had no more issues with one or the other. To give feed back as to where I am with this. I went into the setting of the touch pad tried enabling and disabling various functions. None seam to make any difference, so put them all back as was. I restarted the laptop and so far the issue has gone. I wish I could say I did this ......., but I don't know what may have fixed it. Thanks
ScottBoy Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Hi, Just to let you know I have an E555 as my personal laptop and have had this problem. My cursor starts uncontrollably jumping around the screen if I sit a notepad or something on top of the laptop then remove it. It does this every time, even done it with a light letter, and the only way to fix it is to restart. I don't think it is a hardware issue as I am currently using Linux Mint and cannot replicate the problem, seems to be a Windows or driver issues.

The teacher said she would live it for a bit to see how she got on, after asking her again later she said it had stopped. Thanks for all the help.
