I've been asked to source 30 netbooks. Now I thought the whole netbook fad was over and everyone was on tablets these days (don't worry, I've got to order some of those too!) but clearly not.

 

Anyway are these any good :

My only concern so far is storage, how much is there to play about with after OS install etc? (As long as it is around 10gb it should be fine though as they're only for library loan so should be saving to their Google account or USB drive really)

17.5GB free on the 32GB model, although you can reclaim an extra 7.2GB if you are able to delete the recovery partition.

Hi @googlemad, if you're open to other options our N130 might do the job. It can take up to 750GB hard drive or a 256GB SSD, so plenty of storage to play with.

We have Lenovo Yogas (you can get them without the tablet option) and are very happy with them

Very PC do a nice classmate which might suit - my other school are looking at them

Are you intending to put them on the domain? I think the HP Streams will struggle in the same way as the original netbooks did - they're fine for standalone. For not much more, you can get something that will easily cope. I've had one of the Stone N130s or trial and it's really quite quick.

They'll be standalone for now (I would love to have all mobile equipment on the domain but it ain't gonna be happening anytime soon sadly!)

 

Thanks for all the options, I'll have a look into them. In fact we may have purchased the Stone ones last year, I've just pulled the short straw this year on purchasing some more!

I've had 5 streams to try directly from HP as we have some DM1 that need replacing. The kids destroyed them in a week - the screen hinges snapped on 3 of them and the keys mysteriously fell off. Dog slow on a domain and out of HDD by the time our image and 20 mandatory profiles went on it.

 

Not the tool of choice.

Are there a few suppliers that can actually supply the Linx? (Ideally the 'Pro' education one with the case and keyboard) I had a quick look and most suppliers seemed a bit short of stock or just sold out entirely with no estimates on restock!

 

I have to go through a procurement process annoyingly so actually need to find around 3-5 suppliers with availability
