Amandap108 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Hi, Does anybody know whether Smart Notebook software version 11.4 will be compatible with Windows 10 when it is released in July this year?
halbaradkenafin Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I haven't tested it yet but if it's compatible with Windows 8.1 then it probably is. It might be worth setting up a test machine and installing the tech preview on it and trying all your software. Some stuff might not work now but could on release but not a whole lot is likely to change in the next two months in terms of backwards compatability.

I'm also running windows 7 so I don't actually know if the smart notebook 11.4 runs ok on windows 8.1 Perhaps you could test it for me? hailstorm Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 We've had to go for Smart Notebook 15 on Windows 8. 14 doesn't seem to recognise finger input. Seems to work fine with the pens though.

Notebook itself should run ok Windows 10, but you may have to deploy the separate updated drivers from SMART's site that are actually Windows 10 Logo'd for compatibility. I'm not sure if drivers from December 2013 will work too well...

ekessler Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I was told when I updated to WIndows 10 that 11.4 will not workin Windows 10. I downloaded 15.1 and don't have any use for the new feartures or want to pay for them. I am happy to see that 11.4 will work. The question is now, is the software backwards compatable? Meaning all the files that I have modified in 15, will they open and work in 11.4 or am I now stuck with Notebook 15?
Michael Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I've done about 150 deployments in the past week or so, and most of them include Smart Notebook 11.4 with updated drivers on Windows 10 Education - no problems at all. What generation of boards are you installing for? Most of mine are either the 5 series, 6 series or some of the newer M600 range.

I suspect in the majority of cases it will probably work, but in saying that (top of my head), I think the file extension for version 15 has changed from .notebook. As to whether you can change it back to an older version using the Save As function (if it exists) again, I'm speculating sorry! Only way to find out is to try it
ekessler Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I call smarttech and they told me that the files will work. In order to put on 11.4, I should remove 15 and start fresh with 11.4. Then install the windows 10 drivers. Is that your experience? Or could I just put on 11.4?
Josh Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 (edited) I'd really like to know if I'm doing something wrong, because I've had absolutely no luck installing Notebook 11.4 on Windows 10 (without the drivers and with the drivers). I've used the MSI installer that I've always used, and I've also downloaded the EXE and tried to install manually. I usually end up with a 1603 MSI error. If MSI logging is turned on and I look through the log there's no real obvious culprit. I've also tried turning off UAC to see if it's an elevation thing, but no luck there either. Those that claim that they've installed 11.4 without any issues (other than updating the drivers), is there any trick? Anything I'm missing? Edited October 30, 2015 by Josh

I posted more detail here, but what ended up resolving the problem with SMART Notebook 11.4 rolling back in the middle of the install was to install KB3105210. After installing this update, SMART Notebook 11.4 installs no longer roll-back at Step 4 of 6.
ekessler Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I wanted to update: I had 15 and the new drivers. I removed 15 left the drivers. Put on 11.4 and everything works perfect. The files open and work. The drivers did not need to be touched. Thanks for your help.

On the Smart tech site, it says that the latest support drivers for SB500 series boards is 11 SP2. Have you run the 12.2 version with those boards? I get that they won't test them after support has finished, but that doesn't mean they won't work... And I presume that the later drivers are better/essential for Windows 10? Thanks
ekessler Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I have a SB680 and am using drivers 12.3.646.0 for about 3 months now. Everything works smooth, except for every once in a while I get a yellow warning triangle and the smart notebook files have to be closed and reopened. I doen't know what that is about though. 1
Michael Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I have installed the 12.2 drivers where needed on newer whiteboards yes. Without this, the driver doesn't initialise the board correctly. 1
