but half the fun in open world games for me is climbing to some ridiculous location just to look at the pretty.

Until you remember you selected the Wild Wasteland perk and take a UFO to the face.

It would have been nice of them to update the game engine from Gamebryo, given that they first used that in TES3: Morrowind in 2002. Seriously, I can't believe that trailer has been released in the same year as Witcher 3. It looks like a 360 title still.

I know I'm being a graphics whore, but half the fun in open world games for me is climbing to some ridiculous location just to look at the pretty.

I doubt they're using Gamebryo - why would they when they put all that effort into creating "The Creation Engine" for Skyrim? My guess would be that they're using that instead.

It's a bit depressing that it still looks like Gamebryo then :ohwell: it's all just so... flat. Polygonal. The animation on the dog is so awkward.

Still, I stand corrected. And I'm sure it'll run & look gorgeous after the modders have had a year or so to play :)

To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd rushed the trailer/textures/animations in order to get a trailer out (Though, given how shtum they've been on F4 I don't see why..) but I also wouldn't be surprised if they are just 'beta' textures/animations etc and they're improved during production.

So, it appears that Fallout 4 drops on November 10th, and has a Pip Boy app for phones, a new crafting system (allowing you to build structures), and a special edition which has a real pip boy attachment that you slot your phone into.

Think I might bite the bullet and buy a pre-order! Not sure if I'll go spending £99.99 on the special edition though!!

EDIT: Oh, and there's an iOS game out "Fallout shelter". http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/14/8780115/fallout-shelter-bethesda-mobile-game

...and the ability to wind up the perpetually outraged with only a trailer. :p

No. No preorders. Bad @localzuk.

May have stayed up until half 3 last night watching E3, hyped is an understatement.

I wanted to... but I was too sleepy.

I was tempted to try and be super jammy and get a ticket to E3... But they're like £1000.

The entire Bethesda conference was uploaded to YouTube and is only half an hour long or so, just watch it at lunch :) build your own settlements, modular crafting on armor and items, jetpack power armor.. need I say more?

Also that mobile game they've made looks awesome.

Hm.. Build your own settlements sounds a bit dodgy. I don't want Fallout to be yet another 'build your own stuff survival game' the likes of DayZ, 7 Days to Die, Rust, etc. Whilst I do enjoy those games, I hope Bethesda don't try and go down the same lines.

They did say that was optional.

That's a start. One of the things I've always praised fallout for is how 'alive' the settlements actually feel. Megaton and Freeside, for example, and all the little camps you come across. I really can't see how building your own will give the same feel.

Without watching the video or knowing any real detail I'd speculate they will go with something similar to Hearthfire DLC for Skyrim (always want to call it hearthstone), where it's more a "do it if you want but if not then no negative impact on gameplay".

One of the Bethesda head honchos said on twitter that "info on Android soon".

Also the settlement thing isn't that bad, it's optional and it works by you dismantling objects in the game to get materials - you can build a little house or a settlement and attract people (and raiders).

They've basically taken ideas from popular F3 mods to add it :p I think it's quite nice.

I'll wait to see it before I judge it too much. Admittedly I reckon Bethesda could pull it off, but you'd need to be able to build 'unowned' structures I guess (or have some kind of taxation/property selling system :p) and attract NPC's, build defences of some kind (turrets, high walls, etc). That could be fantastic if you could build a settlement, have traders and citizens come along, and then defend your town from raiders. But. We'll see.

I'll not watch the E3 presentation at lunch. I'm interrupted way too much :p

Fallout 4 tower defence minigame confirmed. :p

Fallout/Civilization hybrid would be immense.. Build your own settlement, get citizens, get shops, defend from raiders, build up alliances (or start conflicts) with neighbouring towns.. Get hype.
